American Horror Story: Coven Teaser Trailers, Opening Credits and More

We've been geeking out over the teaser trailers for American Horror Story's third season, Coven, with its focus on witchcraft. "Initiation" and "Stakes" are our favorites so far, while "Slither" has some of us slightly disturbed. Check out the videos below for a compilation of the teaser trailers, the main credits, and a short promo that reveals a little bit of Coven's story, and let us know which one is your favorite.

This season, we're hoping for some previous elements to be incorporated more. Will it be spooky? Scary? Will there be a romantic element? We are also looking forward to watching three powerhouse actresses (Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Jessica Lange) throw down in an epic witch battle. Who would win? What kind of powers will they have? Who is good and who is evil? We know your questions are floating in the cauldron. What are you looking forward to about this season?

Don't forget to tune in to the season premiere of American Horror Story: Coven on Wednesday October 9th, at 10pm on FX.

I'm a little bit obsessed with the albino minotaur splayed on the floor in "Initiation." That's my fave so far.

Witchcraft is older than Christianity... you nut. Its only been associated with the Devil since the rise of the Catholic Church. Way to spread the dogma.

Spencer did Gordon say anything about Christianity? Yes witchcraft has been around longer than Christianity. Jews believed the same thing that Christians do though. The Torah proves that.

The concept that Witchcraft is of The Devil is unique to Christianity and the point stands that the persecution of "witches" by the Church is one of the great atrocities in human history and a tremendous black eye for the Catholic Church. Just because someone believed things three thousand years ago doesn't make it right or defensible.

I ain't defending it. I am not a fan of the Catholic religion any way. Just assuming that Christianity is the only religion that has dogma is false though.

Christians still believe that witchcraft is demonic. That hasn't changed evn now. The point is they have matured past persecution in that matter though.. The same with how Jews treated Christians.

I'm a Christian, I don't consider witchcraft demonic. Also hate the idea that just because other's do something somehow that justify's a certain group doing it. It's OK that the Democrats are corrupt because the Republicans are too and they're sooooo much worse. No, the issue is that both are corrupt, one does not excuse the other. Same with Dogma, just because it's not exclusive to the Catholic Church doesn't excuse their sins.

Well, Witchcraft might be the most horrific horror to you but it's definitely no more real than any other supernatural depictions in culture, including Harry Potter. There is no ambiguity, it's fantasy

Yet another moron who feels they must comment negatively on every thread that mentions Christianity. Get a life.

I am confused. He didn't sound very negative to me and hardly anybody else sounded that way either.

I'm an ardent fan of this anthology series - While the first season had to get its footing and definitely had some weak moments, by season two they were really on to something. All the teasers seem to suggest a more polished, yet rather expressionist third run with this. Obviously witchcraft, particularly in the South, is fertile ground. I just hope they stay grounded in believable characters because otherwise this could degenerate quickly into a FX extravaganza, nothing more.

You've got to give AHS credit for their teasers. Whether you like the show or not, their trailers and advertising are very unique.

After Breaking Bad is over, this and Homeland are the best shows on TV.

You and I have exactly the same taste in TV. I'd throw The Walking Dead in next followed by Shameless.

Almost agreed... but I had some issues with Season 3 of Walking Dead. A lot of issues in fact, but Season 2 was definitely amazing.

The writers of Shameless have Down Syndrome. Hell on Wheels, Eastbound and Down, Boardwalk Empire have my attention right now.

I dislike that American Horror Story felt the need to game the system and attempt to pass itself off as a mini-series in order to garner awards acclaim.

I'm not sure that the series creators attempted to "pass it off" as a miniseries; in fact, my understanding was that the award committee itself was the one who shoe-horned the show into that category.

I don't think so, I think a series determines which awards it's going to submit for. Like Modern Family determining whose going to be submitted as lead actor and supporting actor. Believe that's fairly standard for all awards ceremonies.

Rebooting the show every season is a genius move, especially in a Ryan Murphy show. He has a lot of great ideas, but can't maintain continuity to save his life...

Let's hope this new season is good. I liked the first one a great deal (a bit too campy at times but overall good). However season two was a bit embarassing, it really took the series a good notch down as it was too convulted and overstuffed. Witchcraft is one of the forms of horror that creeps me out the most which is, of course, great since the all point of good horror is to be unnerving. However I am sckeptic due to the second season's low form of horror. One thing is for sure - considering how psychosexual the series have proven to be the sexual nature of witchcraft will be amped up for sure (I rather it wouldn't but I am certain they wont help themselves).

I agree that it was overstuffed and convoluted (especially with the absurd "alien" thing). I think "embarassing" is a bit harsh, though. There was some superb acting in the second season (much more so than the first, though the first arguably had a more straightforward plot). Honestly, with the addition of Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett (along with a return to the more straightforward story approach of the first season), I can't imagine that this season will be anything less than amazing. :)

I agree that maybe "embarassing" may have been a bit harsh but I was very dissapointed with it. It lacked focus. As I watched it I kept thinking that great sets, atmosphere, actors, camera work and editing were being bogged down by a overly convulted plot. But I expect good things for te third season but seeing as I was so dissapointed with the second one I'll keep my skeptic shield on and tone down my expectations a wee bit.

I just saw a commercial promoting a new Lifetime series The Witches of East End. Pentagrams encircled in flames, ritual sex, blood letting etc.... Also an American Horror Story "Coven" (not on life time) with similar things including a man wearing a goat mask "bophomet" the sign of satan. These new shows and others like them are inundating our culture with more and more blatant demonism and witchcraft. These shows are packaged as artsy or campy satires but in truth are dangerous and blasphemous. We must boycott such shows or we can expect to see more mass shooting, suicides, and eventual judgement falling on our nation. How can we play with such fire and not expect to get burned? Answer: We can't!

Witchcraft is sexy and we fucking love it. Don't like? Don't watch. It isn't up to you to determine what is appropriate for everyone. Handle yourself and leave others alone.
