Im with TheMovieWhore on this one. Really what the heck is with everyone lately. Twilight really? Out of all the vamp flicks from 2000 you pick the lamest one of all. Come on Blade (and its not saying much) was a cooler Vamp then Twilight, Selena (Underworld) was cooler, etc... Twilight is a fad that i hope dies out soon. Heck Eli in Let the Right one is was "cooler" then that douche in Twilight. Can you see how much i hate TWILIGHT.

i agree with yall on this crap. The only reason twilight is so huge is because of these young girls and i know a few older ones who have seen it 4 and 5 times because of edward. I say nothing will top movies like Blade and 30 days of night. I say down with this crap of twilight and lets move on

Kim Newman is perhaps THE leading horror-genre journalist in the world - I think he knows more about vampire movies than you. True, Twilight is boring unwatchable crap, but this isn't an article solely on the merits of that movie. Therefore there is no need to condemn the writer. Wikipedia him, I dare you, and find out just how qualified he is to talk on the subject.

And, dare I say it, Twilight is probably closer to the traditional Bram Stoker idea of vampires than movies like Underworld, with all its additional sci-fi elements and leather.

You are all Being irrational. First of all there not comparing the movies just how cool they think the vamps are, yes I agree there couldve been Blade or Underworld and other awesome movies on the list, but right now its a damn craze... GET USED TO IT! No need to call down movies that are now better ranked than all the other vampire movies...
Its all in the books..

I'm big on vampire films and as much as I enjoy Blade or Underworld, I find that the best vampire films are the ones that symbolize sexuality and are well, sexy and I find that Interview with a Vampire and Twilight fit that very well, even if the latter panders hugely to teenage girls. I enjoy the story of Twilight, not just the apparent sexiness of the characters. It's always nice of course to have an aesthetically pleasing vamp. Anyhoo' - You guys have your Kate Beckinsdale in Underworld - Us girls should be allowed to drool over the cast of Twilight just as much :P
I think this list is way too concise though.

I love vampire movies but Twilight's vampires are not vampires in the classic way. They can go out in the day light (kind of). It is supposed to be a love story and that is what it is not really a horror movie or drama. It is a good love story but not really a classic vampire movie. The characters just happen to be vampires. Good love movie, not good vampire movie. My favorite vampire movie lately is Let The Right One In.

Yes, it is true. Twilight IS a fad. However, it is a fad based off a novel that has captured millions. And while many out of the millions DO enjoy the books based solely on the existence of Edward Cullen, there are many who are in love with the ideas of the novel, the voice of Bella, the restraint of Edward, the suffering of Jacob, the wisdom of Carlisle. To deny Twilight as a formidable opponent in the vampire novel/film arena is to deny air in the earth arena. You don't have to love it, you don't even have to like it. But there is no denying it and it's force. And there is also no denying the sheer strength, power and wisdom of the vampires in the novel and film. Again, you don't have to like it, but please, for the sake of those of us who do, please spend your time bashing it elsewhere.

I myself enjoyed twilight solely on the original take on the vampire world eg. The fact they never sleep, The "gifts" vampires such as Edward and Alice share however i did think the authour did get a bit carried away when i got to the bit when Edward "sparkles" ¬¬.
Who am i to say this aspect is crap though when it worked in the book and movie for some. I can see the romanticism for girls it hold's everywhere, i'm just happy i am not held prisoner to its mighty cluthes. No instead i'll still to the sci-fi spin on things eg. black leather, heavy boots, teckno clubs and blood lots of it!.

They won't be seeing it just for Edward.
Adults have seen it for the pure fact its a book adaptation, and for most that's quite an exciting concept to see a book transferred to the big screen.
As for the 'fangirls'. They might also be going to see it for all the other characters, not just Edward. Jacob Black for instance has a huge fanbase, due to his part being very important as the story develops.

Wow!
It was all intresting until the 2000s page. You make it seem like this is the only vampire movie of this era! Twilight is good...I give you that...But you could have atleast acknowledged other great vampire movies...Blade and Underworld are just a few.

I personally think that Twilight was a better movie than Interview with the Vampire, even though I think the opposite way about the novels. It's just that Tom Cruise was so poorly cast in the movie and that Anne Rice butchered her own novel bringing it to film. Nobody was poorly cast in Twilight and it was a far more faithful adaption than Interview was, and the casting was spot on. I do admire the other casting of Interview. Brad Pitt was good, so were Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst. Antonio Banderas was a bit old for his part, but he was good too.

Twilight is only a phenom due to the influence of the books. Underworld did well without a preset audience, and Blade did well IN SPITE of it's horrible source material. And let's not forget that Blade restarted the love for vampires in the 2000's, made them both cool and dangerous again, and kicked off the comic book movie craze that has made Superhero movies guaranteed blockbusters. Both Blade and Underworld films exceeded Twilight in many respects, as the first twilight "film" has the acting and production values of a made-for-TV movie. Even the trailer for Twilight steals from Spider-Man. WEAK!!!

Let's hope New Moon has something to offer general audiences, not just underage girls. Although I doubt any vampire movie with kids will beat Let the Right One In (a true classic).
