Will Condon's movie convert agnostics to Stephenie Meyer's Twilight cult?
Carrie, you have got to be kidding. Please tell me you're kidding. This cheese-fest is laughably bad - the acting is of the Norma Desmond variety, the awful make-up effects present the vampires as if they're all sprinkled with powdered sugar, and the awful-looking werewolves look exactly like amateurish CGI effects. The only good performance of the lot is Billy Burke as Charlie Swan, Bella's father. He's been the highlight of all the films so far, and he continues his winning ways here - although with such poor competition, it's like comparing the Green Bay Packers to a high school team. It's a shame, because I usually enjoy watching talented performers like Peter Facinelli and Nikki Reed do their thing - and even Kristen Stewart has impressed lately, with good turns in "Adventureland" and "The Runaways". But no actors, no matter how talented, could make this pile of malarkey remotely palatable. The only things I can truthfully say I enjoyed about this film were some technical aspects, such as set design and costuming. It's a very pretty film with absolutely no depth or meaning... which, after all, means that this movie is playing to it's core audience perfectly.
