Sinking Our Teeth Into Twilight, Day 2: New Moon Opens in new window

It's had its share of detractors and naysayers, but Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga has become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, a popular and lucrative franchise that has raked in over $2 billion at the box office and spurred a renewed obsession with vampires and werewolves. Unfortunately for its fans, however, the series will draw to a close this weekend with the release of its final chapter, Breaking Dawn, Part 2. As such, we thought it would be a good time to hunker down and examine what it is, exactly, that makes the series such a hit. To that end, we've commissioned two dedicated RT staffers -- one fan and one neophyte -- to trade observations on The Twilight Saga. Today, we bring you part two of the discussion, which focuses on the second installment, New Moon: More...

RT on DVD & Blu-Ray: A New Moon and a Frog Princess Opens in new window

This week in home video, we've got a slew of brand new releases coming your way. Unfortunately, only a few of them were critical darlings, but the ones that are critic-approved are pretty good ones. Among the new releases are the latest in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, the most recent offering from Disney's traditional animation department, a couple of action flicks that didn't perform as well as they would have liked, a computer animated update of an anime classic, director Pedro Almodovar's latest film, and a boxset of a brutal South Korean trilogy. Dig in, and hopefully there'll be something worth your while this week! More...

5 Facts About The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Opens in new window

The Twilight Saga: New Moon has been in cinemas for almost a week. So, depending on your feelings towards sparkly vampires and extremely buff werewolves, you will either have seen it three times already (ZOMG RPattz!) or avoided it altogether. Either way, the fandemonium has subsided enough for us to look to the future. It's just seven months until Eclipse, the third instalment of Stephanie Meyer's popular book series, hits the big screen. RT caught up with the cast in LA's Four Seasons hotel during their manic New Moon press tour to get the latest on the eagerly anticipated film. We learned that Robert Pattinson hates pranks, Nikki Reed loves werewolves and got the strongest indication yet that there may well be a fifth film. Read on to find out more... More...

Critics Consensus: New Moon Wanes Opens in new window

This week at the movies, we've got hot teen vampires (The Twilight Saga: New Moon, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson); a football family (The Blind Side, starring Sandra Bullock and Quinton Aaron); and some interplanetary mishaps (Planet 51, with voice work by Dwayne Johnson and Jessica Biel). What do the critics have to say? So far, it looks like the latest installment of the Twilight Saga is failing to resonate with the critics, but that didn't stop the first movie from doing gangbusters at the box office, pleasing all of the book's fans in the process. Sandra Bullock hasn't had much luck this year on the Tomatometer, and that doesn't look to change. And lastly, Planet 51 seems as though it doesn't carry much narrative weight behind those flashy visuals. Read the full article for all the details. More...

Total Recall: Star-Crossed Lovers Opens in new window

A big part of the cinema's appeal is its ability to take us places we've never been -- but to really work, that escapism has to be grounded to universal themes, and like the Good Book says, the greatest of these is love. As any Twilight fan could tell you, nothing ratchets up the drama like star-crossed love, and to celebrate the imminent release of the franchise's second installment, New Moon, we've put together a list of some of Hollywood's most noteworthy -- and most persistent -- couples. We couldn't cover them all, of course, but if you've ever shed tears for the injustice of an onscreen love unfairly denied, you're sure to swoon over this week's Total Recall! More...

A Closer Look at New Moon Director Chris Weitz Opens in new window

During our visit to the set of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, we watched from afar as director Chris Weitz ran a seemingly tidy ship. His quiet, polite mannerisms, even during take after take, and his relative expedience moving from one set up to another spoke to a sea change from the type of set Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke reportedly ran: the focused, well-mannered workman vs. the wonderfully eccentric artist. The fans will be pleased, we thought to ourselves. Weitz looks like he knows what he's doing. We take a closer look at Weitz's career and wonder what difference this actors' director will make in the next Twilight film... More...

Comic-Con Wrap: Iron Man 2, New Moon Best In Show Opens in new window

The truth about Sunday at this year's Comic-Con is that it was the day most people skipped - even the Hollywood studios. With only two film panels slated for the day (Overture's docu-romance Paper Heart, which stars a geeky girl who probably reads comics, and the festival hit Mystery Team, which will delight Encyclopedia Brown enthusiasts) it's no wonder that the whole place felt a little empty. So instead of recapping Sunday panels, I'm taking a look back at the entire four days of Comic-Con 2009 to point out what was good, great, and sort of weird about this year's fest - in terms a geek might understand.
