Twilight: New Moon Set Visit Preview -- The Rotten Tomatoes Are Coming!
Chime in and follow along with Jen as she visits the set of the Twilight sequel.

Legions of hardcore Twilight fans around the world currently have one shared obsession: we want to know exactly what's going on with the next movie, New Moon! Well, fellow Twilighters, I'm delighted to share the news that Rotten Tomatoes is heading north this week... to the Vancouver set of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, to observe filming and interview cast members! While we won't be at liberty to divulge too much of our visit this week, chime in and tell us what you want to know most from the set of New Moon and we'll do our best to oblige.

If you've kept up with the Internet in recent months, you might already know that New Moon director Christopher Weitz has already filmed key scenes in the greater Vancouver area. (Twilight: New Moon officially hits theaters this November 20, 2009 -- mark your calendars!) While plenty of fans have "set-stalked" and posted photos from beyond the security lines, Rotten Tomatoes has an exclusive invite to -- yes, indeed -- actually step foot on the set of New Moon and talk to the cast!

Since we love our fellow Twilighters so much, we'd like to share the experience with our readers as much as we're allowed to. Weigh in below and tell us what you're looking forward to seeing most from New Moon: which scenes from Stephenie Meyer's novel you want to see on-screen, which new cast members you're most curious about, if you're hot or cold on Taylor Lautner's cropped Jacob 'do...

As for yours truly, in addition to being extremely hyped to observe filming and talk to the cast, I'm looking forward to speaking with director Chris Weitz, whose previous films (The Golden Compass, About a Boy, American Pie) seem to have prepared him to handle key elements of New Moon -- teenage romance, believable visual effects, and the ability to keep a complicated production under control. My fingers are crossed that I'll see at least a few new faces in character -- either the Quileute Wolf pack (Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon, Bronson Pelletier, Chaske Spencer) or the Italian Volturi (Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning, Jamie Campbell Bower), all of whom have been reported in town in recent weeks. (Meet the new faces of New Moon here!)

And of course, I'd represent all of RT when I say my fingers are crossed that screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg kept Stephenie Meyer's Rotten Tomatoes mention in the script -- because when it comes to buying a ticket to the romance Tomorrow and Forever, "Rotten Tomatoes gave it a better review!"

All that said, as I embark on my journey -- it's not exactly mecca for Twi-hards (that would be a trip to Forks) -- follow my Twilight obsession at twitter.com/jenyamato, and on our official Rotten Tomatoes Twitter account, twitter.com/rottentomatoes and tell me what you want to know most about The Twilight Saga: New Moon!

Live long and sparkle,

Jen

That's OK, Jen--I'll do the Forks trip, you do the Vancity trip! ...OK, seriously, I'd trade. I'll be thinking of you this week while you take in the Vancouver sights and I take in the Forks sights!

I'd love to know how the bigger budget will make a difference for New Moon--does that allow for some more breathing room? Cooler effects?

Also, find out ANYTHING you can about the Volturi being in Vancouver!! I know it's probably top secret, but any juicy hints you can toss towards your salivating RT readers are most welcome!

Have a wonderful trip; can't wait to read your write-up when you get back!! Or really, every single tweet from on-set :-D

Ask if they plan to create the "vote" scene and the hostility between Edward & Jacob when Jacob rats Bella out to Charlie with the motorcycle. I REALLY hope they stay true to the book all the way through, but the end of NM Edward tells Bella he wants to marry her before he'd change her. I really hope they don't leave that out!!!! Find out for us, and have fun~I wish I were you, lucky girl...Take lots of pics of our Rob for us. ;)

I'm DYING to know if we are going to see more of Edward in the movie than we did in the book. Perhaps scenes of him trying to track Victoria through Texas and Brazil or more of his early time in Italy b4 Bella and Alice come for him. 2/3 of a movie without Edward would be so disappointing.

Have a safe trip.

Questions:

Has the scene where Bella jumps off the cliff been filmed?

Will the scene where Edward leaves Bella be as heart breaking as it was in the book? Will it be filmed exactly the way it is described in the book? Will this scene be filmed at the end of shooting New Moon since it's such an important scene?

What a privilege, Jen!

My question: The first movie, Twilight, was very intoxicating...there was a lot of build up and detail in the progression of Edward and Bella's relationship...how they fell in love. After reading the entire book series, I have personally concluded that New Moon is the hardest time that Edward and Bella have in their relationship. And it's SO tragic after where the first book left us! So, will the next movie finish strong at the end? I certainly expect more action and darkness in New Moon, but will there be a comfort and satisfaction about Edward and Bella's relationship at the end of the movie -- like the book?

Thanks!

I am actually looking forward to New Moon just cause it has werewolves as good guys in it, which is something I will always stand behind but I found the first movie weak and did not carry ideas from the book very well. Bella comes off like a psycho girlfriend rather than some "super love" for Edward.

I also was dismayed to see that there is also pedophilism in the next two books. This author seems to make it a theme for her heroes to fall in love or "imprint" on girls much younger than them, in some cases infants. She must be disturbed on some level for it to be a recurring theme.

Hi Can you please ask if rob and kristen are planning on staying on to do the other 2 movies as well? A change of actors would suck coz they are both perfect for the characters portrayed in the books! Also can you ask if they are still going to keep the pg ratings for the the rest of the movies as if so Breaking Dawn will be pretty disappointing as there are some really intense scenes in that book that need to be in the movie!

After being inspired by questions about the fateful phone call between Rosalie and Edward, Stephenie Meyer posted a short piece entitled, "Rosalie's News" on stepheniemeyer.com. It's from Edward's perspective. In it we get some insight as to how sacrificial Edward really is. It also offers in-depth insight into Edward's mindset before and after he thinks Bella has killed herself. It begins with Edward being in a kind of self assigned solitary confinement; hiding out in a dirty crawl space in Italy, only with spiders and rats to accompany him. In his desolate state, he goes back and forth between wallowing in loneliness and contemplating going back to Bella. In the phone call Rosalie tells Edward, Bella has jumped off a cliff and died and Alice is in Forks with Charlie consoling him. Edward calls the Swan residence pretending to be Dr. Carlisle Cullen and asks to speak to Charlie. Jacob answers the phone, (Edward not knowing who the husky voice belongs to) and tells him that Charlie is at the funeral (referring to Harry Clearwater's funeral). Of course then, Edward thinks he's referring to Bella's funeral.

MY QUESTION(s) IS:

Are we going to maybe see something like this in the New Moon movie? Perhaps our beloved Edward wallowing in despair? Showing the time Edward has alone and his reaction to the news that Bella has ended her own life, would tie everything together nicely and positively put everything into motion from there. Along with the added apparitions, this would be a nice way to put more of Edward in New Moon. No doubt this would be an eminent, tear-jerking scene. Can you just imagine all the girls in the audience balling their eyes out when they watch Edward's heart sink?

Wow that's a big explanation before the question. But it's a good one, well done. I too have read 'Rosalie's News' on Steph's site and needless to say got teary-eyed. If they haven't they haven't thought of doing that scene they should definately consider it. The movie might appear choppy without it infact. Its like Romeo Juliet without the tragic end...thank god!

Jen, you should definately ask Maria K's question(s)!

Here's my question:

If I recall corectly, Jacob is a russet brown color when he is in his wolf form. The wolves are described as huge.

So my question is: How will the wolves look in New Moon?

Here's my questions

1. Since Weitz came on board the project as Director has he had any impact on the script. Has he personally made any changes to the script or suggested changes that were taken on board.

2. Robert Pattinson has mentioned in an E Online Interview that he appears in a demonic guise at one point during one of Bella's dreams. Can you find out more about that scene and if he appears in that form during any other scenes.

3. Kristen Stewart said in an E Online Interview that Edward isnt so perfect in new Moon. Can you find out other than the demonic scenes how that manifests itself.

4. Is there a likelihood that some of the dream sequences will get cut if the film comes in at too long a length or are there other scenes that might get cut e.g the cinema scene with Mike and Jacob. The dream scenes in twilight got cut so I hope that this wont happen again.

5. Will Rob and Kristen sign for Breaking Dawn. Indeed are they already signed to do it. Is there a possibility that there may be two films. Splitting the book in half.

If you are allowed to ask about Non New Moon projects can you please ask Robert Pattinson for any information on his other projects - Remember me and Bel Ami based Guy de Maupassant's book. Is he playing the lead in Bel Ami and is it being filmed in french.

Questions:
have they worked out a way to do a better sparkle on Edward because it was appallingly badly done in Twilight.

The same applies to the Vampire running. Have the worked out a more sophisticated effect to show Edward running fast.

Have there been any scenes that they are unsure whether to add to the finished product but are filming anyway. What scenes at this moment in time have the potential to be cut.

Will the demon version of Edward have fangs.

Are Summit trying to get Rob Pattinson to include music in New Moon. His singng in Twilight fitted perfectly. He has said he wont be but then a new quote said 'never say never' so I'm wondering if he has softened to the idea.

Are Kristen and Rob speeding up their delivery in this film because it seemed strangely hesitant in Twilight.

Do you get to see a dream of Bellan as a vampie. Thats the rumour at the moment. Bella and Edward hunting for deer.

As Rob Pattinson is going to Cannes to promote his new film REMEMBER ME is he at liberty to tell you anything about it.For instance is he happy with the final script and the casting of the other characters.

Finally is Rob Pattinson definitely going to be playing the lead in Bel Ami. Hope so.

In reply to this comment (#2455249)
I have the same question if Rob and Kristen will sign on. I also would like to know if they are any closer to revealing if Breaking Dawn is a green ligbt or not. I think if all should be played by the same celebs or they shouldn't make it. It won't be the same or feel like the 4th if they are not all the same. With this said...I want them to make the movie... I think they can get away without making it R rated. Their is a way to imply something without actually showing the details. Kids have read the books anyway to make thier own picture in their heads so why not just imply what the book is saying instead of "showing" what the book is saying.
