Young Gennaro desperately wants to go to the opening of La Paloma, the city's brand-new movie theater. But he hasn't the quarter he needs for admission. So he spends the day trying to raise the money, and in the process has several misadventures and discovers many hidden truths about his seemingly upright neighbors. What he doesn't get is the cash, so Gennaro agrees to help his ailing grandfather with an extremely important task -- even though taking the time out to help probably means he won't get the 25 cents he needs. It turns out, however, that the experience teaches him a lesson he will never forget. [More]

  • Academy Award(R)-winning actor Al Pacino (SCENT OF A WOMAN) stars in this heart-warming, critically acclaimed motion picture about a boy, his grandfather, and the lucky quarter that brings them together. Gennaro is a youngster who'll do anything to earn "two bits" -- a quarter -- to get into the brand-new neighborhood movie theater. It's a magical place where dreams can come true, but after a day of unforgettable adventures he finds his pockets are still empty ... until his mischievous grandpa (Pacino) offers him an intriguing bargain! Also featuring Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (THE PERFECT STORM), TWO BITS is a lively coming-of-age story everyone is sure to love!

It obviously has its moments, but most of the way this is pretty tepid stuff. We've seen it all before.

Al Pacino gives a touching performance as a dying old man in this sensitive little film.
