Reviews for Ultimate X: The Movie
While the finished product is still fun, never dull and the athletes themselves remarkable, inspired and apt, the production could have been improved.
The most enjoyable 40 minutes I've ever spent watching a large-format, IMAX-type movie.
The film's 45-minute running time stops shy of overkill, though viewers may be more exhausted than the athletes onscreen.
If you think that “ESPN’s Ultimate X” is a motor oil, then you need to see this movie, dude.
If you think that “ESPN’s Ultimate X” is a motor oil, then you need to see this movie, dude.
Transcends its agenda to deliver awe-inspiring, at times sublime, visuals and offer a fascinating glimpse into the subculture of extreme athletes whose derring-do puts the X into the games.
Instead of a balanced film that explains the zeitgeist that is the X Games, we get a cinematic postcard that's superficial and unrealized.
A thrill ride blown up to gigantic mind-blowing proportions; played out over a booming rock 'n roll soundtrack.
Devotees seem more interested in mayhem than competition. Perhaps that's why the filmmakers save their money shots for a closing montage of painful wipe-outs and crashes.
Writer/director Bruce Hendricks subtracts from the experience by crafting a corporate propaganda film posing as a documentary.
You feel like you're the one moving at 80 mph, not the street lugers.
The format gets used best ... to capture the dizzying heights achieved by motocross and BMX riders, whose balletic hotdogging occasionally ends in bone-crushing screwups.
A Generation X artifact, capturing a brief era of insanity in the sports arena that surely cannot last.
Ultimate X smoothes out the rough edges of Evel [Kneivel]'s bad boy tradition and delivers a film that keeps mom and dad in on the cool -- Disney with a little flava.
Needs more impressionistic cinematography and exhilarating point-of-view shots and fewer slow-motion 'grandeur' shots and quick-cut edits that often detract from the athleticism.
A love letter for fans of the sport, and for the uninitiated earth-bound, a peek into a strange new sports world spinning with adrenaline.
