There may be some truths in Valeria Bruni Tedeschi's semi auto-biographical film, but it is hard to have much affection for the disparate group of characters who inhabit it. It plays as a farce, when the subject matter is anything but funny

There's darkness and poignancy in this charmingly irreverent escapade, and I was never sure whether to laugh or cry. It's all a bit of a dog's breakfast -- but what a friendly, frisky, lovable dog it is.
