Not only is David still alive after the crash--he's completely unharmed. After this miraculous incident, he's contacted by the mysterious Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), a dealer of comic book art who seems to have the opposite physicality--his bones tend to snap like twigs. As Elijah attempts to help the reluctant hero realize his superhuman potential, David tries to make amends with his estranged wife (Robin Wright Penn) and son (Spencer Treat Clark). Following the runaway success of THE SIXTH SENSE, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan once again teams up with Willis for another bleak supernatural tale with a surprising finale. Although Willis and Jackson are excellent in their roles, the highlights of the film are Eduardo Serra's cinematography and Shyamalan's direction, which are eerily atmospheric and inventive--in certain sequences, for example, entire scenes are shot as reflections on glass. UNBREAKABLE is a superhero film at heart, but Shyamalan's somber aesthetic transforms it into something far more intriguing. [More]

Reviews for Unbreakable
Shyamalan is a brilliant young director; in Unbreakable he may not have a lot to say, but I like the way he says it.
Thrill-kill plots, cardboard characters and zap-pow editing are not for Shyamalan, who takes his good, thoughtful time to snare audiences in his dark web.
The trouble with the movie is its plot, which begins with a richly enigmatic aura, then becomes more silly and superficial with every new twist.
Shyamalan has shown himself to be an outstanding master of atmosphere and a riveting storyteller.
The story is propelled by the idea that we live in a world so desperate for heroes, that people can go to extreme measures to either imagine or create them.
Although the subject matter is fantastical, Shyamalan keeps it down to earth with moody realism and a refusal to overstate anything.
Los resultados son en muchos aspectos superiores a lo realizado por Shyamalan con anterioridad
...a labored, shallow exercise in cheap thrills that is more interested in playing with the audience's mind than uncovering a decent, thought-provoking narrative.
Unhappily, Unbreakable's codes and moral lines are too familiar and too visible.
Great performances, moments and ideas. If it doesn’t provide the tidy ending that made The Sixth Sense a talking-point, that might not be a bad thing.
It has some good atmosphere and a nice twist at the end, but the ends of this film, to paraphrase Ambrose Bierce, are too far apart.
Brilliant and steady camera work produces an eerie ambiance that keeps audiences hooked. But for what? It all relies too heavily on a payoff that derails before its time.
You'll like the story enough and the way it unravels in the last 15 minutes is awfully schweeet. Just don't go in expecting The Sixth Sense Part Two.
