Not only is David still alive after the crash--he's completely unharmed. After this miraculous incident, he's contacted by the mysterious Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), a dealer of comic book art who seems to have the opposite physicality--his bones tend to snap like twigs. As Elijah attempts to help the reluctant hero realize his superhuman potential, David tries to make amends with his estranged wife (Robin Wright Penn) and son (Spencer Treat Clark). Following the runaway success of THE SIXTH SENSE, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan once again teams up with Willis for another bleak supernatural tale with a surprising finale. Although Willis and Jackson are excellent in their roles, the highlights of the film are Eduardo Serra's cinematography and Shyamalan's direction, which are eerily atmospheric and inventive--in certain sequences, for example, entire scenes are shot as reflections on glass. UNBREAKABLE is a superhero film at heart, but Shyamalan's somber aesthetic transforms it into something far more intriguing. [More]

Reviews for Unbreakable
Well-crafted, even thought-provoking film that's seriously marred by an awful ending.
Jarringly shifts from being a potential letdown to a certifiable pop-cinema masterpiece.
Each shot is layered with delicious meaning, like a wedding cake layered with frosting.
At times, I found it terrific and effective, but at others, it felt boring and occasionally a bit goofy.
Manages to successfully slap together a unique mystery, interesting characters, real life situations to which we could all relate and a touch of the paranormal.
Unbreakable seems to have encouraged all its actors to emulate Willis' lugubrious pacing, meaning that usually vibrant actors such as Wright Penn and Jackson are not shown to their best advantage.
An intriguing story executed with visual panache and fine acting performances.
It's clearly the work of a young master that gives its audience something to mull over long after they leave the theater.
During a conversation between an astonished doctor and a miraculously unscathed Dunne ... it's a measure of Shyamalan's restraint and his uncanny knack for storytelling.
Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan has imagination and flair, and he''ll probably tell us engrossing stories for years to come. Unbreakable just isn''t one of them.
Unbreakable, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan's dazzling reunion with Bruce Willis confirms he's one of the most brilliant filmmakers working today.
A considerable emotional investment in comic book lore is required for that to make this glum, poky picture worth watching through to the final revelation.
If you can manage that precious, tentative suspension of disbelief, you'll find Unbreakable a rewarding meditation on the nature of heroes, both comic book and otherwise.
Unbreakable is as compellingly watchable, stylish and intriguing as its predecessor, its ending has almost the opposite effect on the overall picture.
