He has one friend, Erik (Johan Widerberg) who helps him with some of the work on the farm, but for the most part he lives a solitary life. That is, until he decides to hire a housekeeper. The gorgeous blond, Ellen (Helena Bergstrom), who shows up to take the position sweeps him off his feet. Although an inevitable love triangle develops between Rolf, Ellen, and the jealous Erik, UNDER THE SUN keeps its focus on the beautiful rural landscape and maintains a light and joyous mood. [More]

Try to block out the heavy-handed symbolism and predictable plot, and concentrate on the wonderful Lassgärd.

The battle lines between tradition and trend, long-term commitment and short-term desire are drawn with great subtlety.

An antidote to the chaotic world that surrounds us, a place of beauty where humanity and nature are at its most basic.

This modest drama is the art-house equivalent of comfort food: satisfying in its familiarity.

Mostly, Under the Sun keeps sex under wraps -- and there's a lesson in that.

Cinematographer Jens Fischer and composer Paddy Maloney help Nutley immeasurably in creating a warm and inviting world, and in telling a story with so much good humor and honest emotion.

Under the Sun doesn’t strain for laughs or even chuckles, but tells its story of sexual awakening in midlife with a lyrical feeling for nature and all its sensuous metaphors for human desire.

This engaging drama proves, as the Dalai Lama has noted, that the spiritual practice of kindness can work wonders in all human relationships.

Unfortunately this film falls into a difficult category to appreciate. It isn't necessarily a good film for couples, and yet a modern single won't find much to like either. A bit too much like life for our tastes.

Not only does the movie decline to submerge itself in the rampant Hitchcock undercurrents, it seems altogether unaware of them.
