Box Office Guru Preview: Fool's Gold Hopes to Shine in Battle of New Comedies
Hollywood plays the race card this weekend opening a pair of star-driven comedies, one for white moviegoers and the other for black audiences. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson get the wider release with the romantic adventure comedy Fool's Gold while debuting in 741 fewer theaters is Martin Lawrence's family reunion laughfest Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins.

Fox Searchlight Digs the "Phat Girlz"
Fresh out of my inbox comes a press release from Fox Searchlight that informs us of a movie called "Phat Girlz," which stars Mo'Nique, Eric Roberts, Jack Noseworthy, and Jimmy Jean-Louis. Based on the release, it seems that "Phat Girlz" is about overweight ladies on the hunt for some lovin'. And no, this is not a direct-to-video movie.

Ensemble Signs Up for Untitled Rom-Com Spoof
The Hollywood Reporter brings news of an upcoming romantic comedy spoof that has five actors and no title ... yet. Screenwriters Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer ("Scary Movie," "Spy Hard") will co-direct an as-yet-untitled spoof of the reliable old chick-flick rom-com formula.

Oliver Stone to Introduce a New "Night Watchman"
The Hollywood Reporter brings news of filmmaker Oliver Stone's next project, which is the long-discussed, frequently delayed "Night Watchman." Based on an earlier screenplay by James Ellroy ("Dark Blue," "L.A. Confidential"), the story is about "a disgraced police officer who sets out to rid the police force of corruption."
