Funny one of the most bankable actresses also happens to be one of the worst in recent memory. Standards ain't what they used to be.

So they didn't include Bel Ami and Cosmopolis for Pattinson because they didn't have wide enough releases? Am I missing something or did they not get wide releases because they were under performing to begin with. Not trying to hate on Pattinson since I do think he has the potential to be a good actor, but what's the point of the list if they're only going to include movies that perform well.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of this list.

" what's the point of the list if they're only going to include movies that perform well. "

Because if it didn't perform well they would be on the least bankable list. Get it now?

He's saying the list has been manipulated to make Pattinson look more bankable than he is e.g. if you included Bel Ami and Cosmopolis which performed suckily because Pattinson isn't bankable. Then his Twilight #'s really wouldn't look as good. If Pattinson were really that bankable Bel Ami and Cosmopolis would have gotten wider releases.

Skewed and pointless list, I agree and it's mostly due to Twilight being cheaply made and cheesy while raking in money from people with bad taste. Also I wasn't aware anyone actually watched Bel Ami or Cosmopolis.

I find this list incredibly flawed. Just because an actor or actress starred in movies that were hugely succesful does not make them bankable. There may have been a ton of other reasons why audiences saw their films.

Take the so called top five for instance. Aside from Portman, it's filled with actors who have mainly taken part of huge franchises (Potter, Transformers, Twilight) which would have been huge even without their involvement and yet outside of these franchises they haven't been very succesful. Heck, in the past five years, all of Kristen Stewarts films where she wasn't playing a popular literature character (Snow White, Bella Swan) didn't even get wide releases. In fact, even by limited release standards they did poorly. That's hardly what I'd call bankable.

On the other hand, you take someone like Denzel Washington. Because of the huge salaries he recieves he got ranked in the bottom ten. Here's the thing though, none of Denzel's films were sequels, big special effects spectacles or based on hugely popular source material. In short, the main reason for people to see the films was because they were starring Denzel. And yet he's shown the type of consistency that the so-called top five can only dream of. Almost every film he's been involved in has managed at least a 20 mil opening weekend. And all of them relied mainly on his name to carry them. Now that's being bankable.

Even George Clooney is more bankable than a lot of stars in the top 10. Films like The American and The Ides of March would not have even gotten a wide release had Clooney not been involved.

I wouldn't even call Natalie Portman bankable.

The majority of moviegoers don't anxiously await the next Natalie Portman movie.

They may go to see movies that happen to have her in it, but not because of her.

That's true. Although females might. Portman was great in Black Swan, and being a better actress is certainly a better draw to me than say, if Kristen Stewart was in it.

I'm not sure what this list is trying to say either. I mean math and figures are fun but what is it saying? That these starts won't be in films anymore in 3 years? Megan Fox and Shia Lebouf were pretty on on this list. The only one I can recollect that still has an outstanding career from the forbes list is Anne Hathaway.

Is it saying maybe You won't see many of there films becuase they with all this money will most likly retire immediately and maybe every once in a while appear in an independent project that they also produced for 2-3 minutes?

"The Hollywood Reporter" only mentions just 3 films out of many she's done doesn't tell me anything at all! "The Black Swan" made money soley because it was an Oscar nomnated film and that was it. What this article failed to address to support their claim are Portman and Stewart's reported salaries!
