Wiseman Talks "Underworld" and "Die Hard" Sequels
by Scott Weinberg | June 09, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
As if he wasn't already blessed enough by having Kate Beckinsale as his Mrs., writer/director Len Wiseman looks to have his plate full with sequels. Read on for a little info regarding the man's plans for "Underworld 3" and "Die Hard 4."

From iF Magazine: What can we expect from UNDERWORLD 3?

LEN WISEMAN: The third film is going to be a prequel. It will be the origin story and we find out things we didn’t know about Lucian; he’ll have a much bigger part in it. It will be about the creation [of the races] and what started the war. It will be a period piece. In terms of the writing, a lot of the writing has been done. We’ve been developing UNDERWORLD 3 for a while. I won’t be directing UNDERWORLD 3; I’m just going to be producing and writing.

iF: Is Kate going to be in it, or is this in the time period before her character?

WISEMAN: It will be in the time period before, but it will overlap into the creation of her as well. We’re in the process of seeing how far we go with that.

iF: How do you feel about being asked to direct DIE HARD 4?

WISEMAN: It’s going and it’s exciting. DIE HARD has always been something I grew up loving as a franchise. When I saw that film in Junior High, I ran home and got my video camera. I got my special effects guys, Chris and Jason from across the street, and I started making my own DIE HARD movie. In terms of how I’m connected to it as a fan, it has always been a favorite.

Hmmm dont think he should be directing die hard 4, both his previous films have been rotten, he will ruin it.

That's right, that's why both Underworld films have done well at the box office, and, though panned by critics, have done quite well with the public.

The Underworld movies stunk; people only watched them for the vampires. Wiseman won't be able to write himself out of this own with vampires... or will he?
Hmmm... McClane vs. vampire terrorists...

I haven't watched the second one yet, but I found the first Underworld quite enjoyable. Very stylish in a Matrix rip-off sort of way. And lots of fun. I'll give him a chance with Die Hard. Can't be any worse than 3.

The first Underworld movie was very entertaining. The second one was pure garbage. Wiseman seems to go for style in his movies, but the style elements heavily borrow from the Matrix movies. Honestly though, the question should be...do we really need another Die Hard movie?

I'm there as long as Kate Beck in it!

... I guess you won't be there since neither of these movies will have Kate Beck in it.

Yes, yes it can...and "Vengence" wasn't that bad.

"I won’t be directing UNDERWORLD 3; I’m just going to be producing and writing."

Sounds like direct to DVD to me.

The question should be...do we another Underworld, let alone another prequel?

I will have to respectfully disagree. I think Vengenance was complete garbage and pretty much killed the franchise, although it seems to be rising from the dead, doesn't it?
