It's round two of the battle between vampires and werewolves. I won't reveal who wins, but the audience certainly loses.

The story picks up right where the first UNDERWORLD left off, in the midst of a war between Lycans (werewolves) and vampires, with the gorgeous death-dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale), on the run with her vamp-wolf hybrid lover, Michael (Scott Speedman). This go-'round, there are flashbacks to three centuries earlier and the separation of two ultra-bad brothers, one vampire and one Lycan. The Lycan gets locked in a hidden tomb/prison and the feud begins. In the present, the winged vamp brother Marcus (Tony Curran) is determined to find his Lycan sibling and free him, which would wreak unimaginable havoc on the world. Selene's got to stop it, and the result is mayhem, with great gun battles, bashings and hackings, mysterious artifacts, orgies, and sneaking around in the dripping wet crypts and catacombs. Beckinsale looks great with her jet-black hair, skintight leather bodysuit, red lips, and glowing blue eyes. Director Len Wiseman obviously has a great love for this alternate universe; he keeps the action humming, the blood running, and the cast well-stocked with seasoned British actors like Sir Derek Jacobi, Bill Nighy, and Steven Mackintosh. The sex and violence may still be a bit intense for youngsters, but for the vampire crowd, it's a moveable feast of generous, still-twitching proportions. [More]

Reviews for Underworld: Evolution
Devoid of its predecessor's proletariat-aristocracy allegorical undercurrents and beset by more perplexing flashbacks than a Timothy Leary apprentice.
Comes off as a slight improvement over the original, if only because the stake lodged up its hindquarters seems to measure a few millimeters smaller.
What gratuitous guilty pleasures Underworld promised, Evolution delivers. Indulge.
If you listen to Marilyn Manson, read Fangoria magazine, and do all your clothes shopping at Hot Topic, then Underworld: Evolution is the movie for you. All others needn't bother.
I suppose bloodlust is enough excuse for anyone willing to endure 105 minutes of monster derby, but really: Who are these characters?
... Underworld: Evolution registers visually but isn't alive enough to cast a reflection or shadow.
A war between vampires and werewolves was sort of cool once. But twice?
almost indistinguishable from the first installment... functions primarily as Wiseman's multimillion-dollar love letter to Beckinsale...
This sequel proves that Underworld has not in fact evolved with an ending hinting at yet another installment. Can we just please keep that in the coffin?
Murky, uneven, and filled with an extravagant, needless backstory that would make Tolkien double take, Evolution fails to live up to the promise the original film made.
Underworld: Evolution was a huge step up from the first film. But then again, there wasn't really much room to get any worse.
'Evolution' is certainly a bad film, but at least it revels in its badness with a sly smile.
all about the gore, blood and killing with some prurient, but ultimately disappointing, titillation thrown in. Sadly, some people will take that as an endorsement instead of as a condemnation.
it's hard to drum up the enthusiasm to call it anything more than a hybrid of unnecessary and average.
Stylish, but doesn't really re-imagine the vampire genre, cluttering the screen with creatures that no longer shock or surprise us. It's also a bit too long to pack a mean punch.
