Trailer Bulletin: World Trade Center
by Scott Weinberg | May 17, 2006
Discuss Article
We just got done talking about "United 93" and now comes that 'other' 9/11 movie we've been anticipating and dreading in equal measure. It's Oliver Stone's "World Trade Center," and you can see the brand-new trailer right here.

"World Trade Center" is "the true story of Will Jimeno and John McLoughlin, two Port Authority police officers who rushed into the burning World Trade Center on 9/11 to help rescue people but became trapped themselves when the tower collapsed. A race against time ensued to free them before their air ran out."

Written by Andrea Berloff and directed by Oliver Stone, "World Trade Center" opens on August 9th. The film stars Nicolas Cage, Michael Peņa, Maria Bello, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jay Hernandez, Stephen Dorff, and Michael Shannon.

(On a personal note ... I think it's a damn good trailer.)

umm...

Its only a trailer and all, but the acting seemed rather, well bad.

I dont know, maybe thats how new yorkers do act, (I hope not, what with the stilted dialogue and lack of emotion) but frankly it was irritating to watch and listen to.

Other then that it seemed ok. Maby overly over dramatic, but ok.

Your spelling is deplorable and embarrassing to witness. "Maby" is spelled "Maybe" as in "May-be."
And "irratating" is actually "irritating." "Dialoug" is "dialogue."

I barely made it through United 93, I just about lost it with this trailer. I think I'll just have to put the 9/11 stuff away for awhile.

I thought the trailer was very powerful.

Well, I didn't expect much from Oliver "Alexander" Stone . . . but WOW that trailer was BAD. Giggle-inducing . . . really!

The technical aspects of the film(cinematography, performances, and probably sound) all look great . . . which might make it worth a view. But the schmaltz-O-meter is registering red!

Having seen United 93's gripping, realist approach to it's 9-11 material . . . and it's ability to just let the situations speak for themselves and their own power . . . "World Trade Center" (I'm guessing) will just WITHER under it's forced sentimentality!

Sometimes less is more.

"United 93"'s technique was worlds smarter: No big stars (no stars of any kind), no grand sweeping score, and the filmmakers certainly didn't use 9/11 as the backdrop for a smaller story, somewhat in the way that "Titanic" and "Pearl Harbor" did. Of course, this is only a trailer, and I myself don't mind these qualities, but Stone is definitely riding on the coattails of the magic trick "United" pulled off (under so much controversy and scrutiny) in order to tell this story the way he appears to be telling it. I don't doubt it will be respectful in spirit, but a lot of people won't see it that way, especially when the massive orchestra resolves a note on violins for the 30th time.

This was a great trailer!

This trailer almost made me cry.

I guess one could argue that it's the day that pulls on my emotional strings rather than the actual trailer, but either way.

I don't know if I can bring myself to actually go watch this movie. The last thing I need is to sit in a theater and ball my eyes out for 2 hours.

I find it ironic that the tagline of this film uses the word "True" especially since it was directed by a man who has made a career of making films with historical premises and interlacing them enormous amounts of b.s.!!!!

I agree that Cage's acting seemed rather bad.

Not that it matters to me, because i had no interest in United 93 and i have no interest in this either.

why are these movies coming out so soon?

not even five years after that day

i think it's terrible... if it's to be a movie then wait 15-20 years for a future generation to learn and recount the events, but not now

united 93 was pretty excellent, if you haven't seen it give it a chance.

this movie, despite only seeing the trailer, looks like it'll make snake eyes my second least favorite cage flick
