Though inspired by a real incident, the movie is an opportunistic political allegory about an economy that's out of control and industries that are weakened by layoffs, under-staffing and corporate callousness.
And that's a bad thing?

I swear to god I was just gonna write that

No, this movie was about a train that was unmanned-- this isn't some crazy metaphorical attempt to depict our country in it's present state of disarray. In fact, this story is about as simple as its down-home country working class characters that drive the film. Given that the train was carrying harzardous materials and gaining speed I would assume that this would definitely induce a panic amongst all forces involved especially the train company. Obviously considerations such as cost/benefit analysis would be taken into account. And while I don't know for sure, I'm fairly certain that most train operators and conductors aren't exactly rolling in the big dough.. so yeah they would be turned into folk heroes, as would anyone be praised for performing such a task as thwarting a potentially epic environmental and social disaster. I think the point of bringing up the firing and what not was simply to show that there was nothing to lose for this guy... not some hugh political representation of our current economy.

You say there were only "three of us" but I count 4 DocRon's

Wow, that's a stretch. None of the three of us who saw the movie last night came away with anything like that. Way to allow your political "consciousness" take away the enjoyment of an action pick that was totally fun and not much else.

You went a little too deep into a movie with Denzel and Pretty-Boy, this movie is strictly written for entertainment, it does not hold a message that deep, and if it does it was poorly conveyed to the audience.

You have got to be kidding! One of the best thrill rides of the year. What movie did you see?

yeah thx for the info.. what you said is an absolute standard and anyone educated knows this.. your missing the point and its time to open your eyes and recognize that what you describe is a standard in many transport industries. Indeed, I would say this is why a lot of people like this movie - because of the current restructuring taking place. I"m gessing as a writer for globe and mail and critic, you're in your 40s or 50s?... wake up and smell the coffee and plz don't write basic, annoying reviews which show no depth and insight into our modern world - everything you said is nearly in the dictionary to define certain transport industries - next........

There is a great LinkedIn group you might be interested in. It's called "Illuminati". It's all about conspiracy theories and stuff. I think you'd fit in well.

After reading your review, I was intrigued to watch this movie and form my own opinion of its metaphorical relevance. After watching this movie, I discovered that if you watch this movie carefully, you will come to the realization that it reeks of antidisestablishmentarianism. I was truly shocked to the point where I even threw up a little in my mouth...
