Nic Cage Cast As Capone In "Untouchables" Sequel
Nicolas Cage is set to slide into the role of mobster Al Capone in a prequel to 1987's "The Untouchables" that will examine the gangster's early years and rise to power.
Per MTV, Cage steps into a role made well-known by Robert DeNiro, who played Capone in the original film. "The Untouchables: Capone Rising," will chronicle Capone's ascent in the Chicago underworld and his early interaction with Irish policeman Jimmy Malone (played by Sean Connery in the 1987 flick).
Best of all for fans of the original, the prequel will be directed by none other than Brian De Palma, who helmed the first flick and worked with Cage on 1998's "Snake Eyes."

MTV's Larry Carroll notes rumors of casting Sean Penn or Colin Farrell in the Malone role; according to IMDB, script comes courtesy of "Hurlyburly" playwright David Rabe and "Rounders" scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
The Paramount production is set to begin filming in October, with a tentative 2008 release date.

on May 11 2007 05:49 PM Nic Cage, are they serious? He looks absolutely nothing like al capone in any conceivable way. Brian De Palma what are you thinking? Nic Cage would not be able to fill that role at all, even if he gained 40 pounds. He just doesn't have the vibe to pull it off nor the features. Please! Please no Nicholas Cage, he'll ruin the movie. Give Al Capone some decency. (Reply to this) |

on May 11 2007 05:56 PM In reply to this comment (#865018) Um... what?! He looks nothing like him? He isn't fat enough? Al Capone deserves dignity? These are the reasons Nic Cage is a bad choice?! we know Cage is capabble of being a great actor... and is capable of being a mad dog. That makes him a great choice for Capone. This sounds, given the presumed casting choices, like it would be a lot of fun. It may indeed be an unnecessary project for a lot of reasons, but it sounds pretty damn entertaining. (Reply to this) |

on May 11 2007 06:22 PM Nic Cage is great in comedies. Raising Arizona is classic. He was nominated for Adaptation and that's mostly entirely comedy. He cannot and should not do dramas or action. He should stick with what he does best. (Reply to this) |

on May 11 2007 06:53 PM In reply to this comment (#865023) Except for that Oscar he won for a drama. And shouldn't do action? Face/Off was awesome, and he was awesome in it. Some of his other action flicks weren't the best, but he is generally good in them. Sortta like, say, Stallone. He may often makes poor choices material wise, but he usually does more for the film than it does for him. (Reply to this) |

on May 12 2007 06:06 AM I know I should be used to this by now (with sequels, prequels, and scene by scene recreations), but is there anything in Hollywood has deemed really untouchable? Crappy joke aside, unless Al Capone is going to be punching a bunch of women in a bear costume or have a flaming skull head, why is this prequel necessary? (Reply to this) |

on May 12 2007 07:23 AM First he wanted to be Superman, now he wants to be Capone. Who's next, Matin Luther King? Did it ever occur to him that while he's a good actor there are just some roles he's not cut out for? Pee Wee Herman would make a better Capone than Cage! (Reply to this) |
