While everyone else knows Pixar makes some of the least merchandizable animated films, he compares it to GM (which makes zero sense and comes across simply as an insult) in how it dominates pop culture. It's no secret, and no one will deny that DW is more interested in unintelligent, pop culture references to drive a film rather than true storytelling, yet he seems to ignore this fact. He even contradicts himself. He claims Up begins far too emotional and sentimental, but then he goes on to say that it "drops its emotional elements for chase mechanics and precious comedy. This way, Pixar disgraces and delimits the animated film as a mushy, silly pop form." I don't defend those who throw insults at White, but I would rather stand up for the ignorant than a man who should be smart enough to know that what he writes has no place in a review column. on May 27 2009 03:26 PM I think better examples of GOOD animation would be Coraline, Persepolis, Waltz With Bashir, and The Iron Giant. Monster House, Chicken Little, and Teacher's Pet didn't have very striking animation at all, and certainly not compared to Pixar. Plus- they were all very mediocre films. Pixar is what started 3D animation- they're the best. (Reply to this) |

on May 27 2009 03:29 PM I've been reading comments on all these reviews and I'm having laughing so hard and can't stop because I was there from the beginning where people predicted who would be first to give a rotten review. Turns out you guys were right. Oh well, as much as I love Pixar, I really don't care for rotten reviews...I'm just interested in reading opinions on the 3D version and the positive remarks about the movie. (Reply to this) |
on May 27 2009 03:29 PM This review reeks of being negative for the purpose of being negative. Most of the criticisms are painfully contrived. I think that White forgot that the Pixar is aimed first and foremost at children, even then they satisify a wide variety of bases unlike any other film studio I know. Did you really expect Up to be sokme kind of dark, moody, emotionally baggaged film? I say disregard this review, are you going to listen to the entire town or the one village idiot?
