First up was a DVD of a rap concert she has loaned me, but I've never bothered watching. I probably won't be bothering to watch it again, unless I'm really hungering to see stupid white chicks flash their boobs. I don't mind the music of Ice Cube, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. In fact, I kind of like Dr Dre. But I would rather listen to the CD, rather than this boring, bad-sounding concert film. The highlight was a softcore porn vignette that featured Snoop and Dre in a bloody shootout in a liquor store.
After flipping through it, she picked out something to appease me - the DVD of Hero, the Zhang Yimou Chinese historical fantasy that has yet to be seen in the States. But I've seen it several times and marvel each time at its beauty. What a great cast: Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi. Donnie Yen thrown in for good measure.
Next came a selection from the VHS collection, Frequency. It's a good thriller and moved me on this repeat viewing.
The closing feature for this marathon evening of viewing was Virtuosity, which was picked because she likes Denzel Washington. It's an entertaining sci-fi ride, featuring a wonderfully manic performance by Russell Crowe.
