She has found love and success in Torino. Ugo, a famous director who heads a theatre company, has given her her chance. She has become the leading lady in the company and his lover. This is the first time she returns to Paris to act in a series of performances "As You Desire Me" by Luigi Pirandello. Camille will be confronted with the past she has fled. She secretly dreads meeting Pierre, the man she left. But she will meet him again. Ugo also has a secret. Being in Paris is for him an opportunity to search for a lost, unpublished, manuscript of Goldoni. This quest will lead him to the troubling Dominique. Passions will rise. Each will be confronted with the truth. The theatre, once again, will serve as a backdrop and a revelation to the truth. -- © 2001 Sony Pictures Classics [More]

Reviews for Va Savoir
Rivette's examination of the nature of relationships is witty and light-hearted.
An enchanting entertainment that offers a number of laughs while dispensing an equal number of romantic truths.
Rivette manages the complex choreography of his characters with virtuoso comic timing.
... a playful romantic comedy about six characters in search of love ...
Yet another long, meandering, talky French film may not be your first choice for escapist entertainment. But there's some terrific stuff in this one.
It's gratifying to see actual adults in a movie, and it's fun to watch director Jacques Rivette keep several subplots aloft, like plates spinning on top of poles.
The sort of lighter-than-air cinematic souffle that only the French seem capable of making nowadays.
We are all our own works of art and artists of a sort, Rivette seems to say ... Comparing and contrasting the two, he finds them both wanting and glorious.
Its warm humor and love for its characters ultimately wins us over to its side.
A dense, droll and frequently delightful account of that zone where art and life (and love) converge.
Clocking in at 2 1/2 hours, Va Savoir is in essence a madcap bedroom farce, the kind where doors open and slam with wild precision.
So pretentious, arch and spuriously clever that watching it almost makes your teeth ache.
Rivette's wry and compassionate Va Savoir is the year's most graceful comedy.
