If nothing else, films like 'Eaten Alive' and 'Vamp' with their overriding influences to Tarantino represent important springboards. Regardless of the 'From Dusk Til Dawn' connection, 'Vamp' begins as a sublime hybrid of frat boy chemistry (the hanging hazing opening is a good misdirection) and vampire seduction, but it soon meanders aimlessly. One can accurately indicate when the film derails, it's after Robert Rusler departs midway through the film and the pink-neon lighting of a Joel Schumacher 'Batman' film becomes more incandescent. The androgynous Grace Jones is a rapturous creature in her Kabuki theater makeup and slender body, but she is hardly present until the deus ex machina finale. Additionally the puerile one-liners of a freshly vampiric Rusler is pure shtick ("I can work on this. Ever heard of night class?").

Fun cult horror from the 80s about a couple of frat boys who travel to a seedy stripclub with the aim of enticing one of their performers back to their college campus to impress the guys. Unknowingly to them, the club and surrounding area is full of vampires. It's limited with what it has to offer but it's energenic, fast-paced and quite amusing. The Vamp make-up effects and nicely done with Grace Jones looking terrifying with and without her vampiric appearance. Must-see for fans of 80s vampire films like Fright Night and The Lost Boys.

One of those fraternity comedies, but with vampires! A lot of fun, I liked this dark comedy.

Pretty boring and campy 80's horror flick, which I usually dig, but this one was just yawn-inducing.

I rewatched this having seen it in the theater when it came out.
Two words: Grace Jones.
Just about everything else in this film is forgetable, with the exception of Dedee Pfeiffer (who is absolutely adorable). Sadly both of them are greatly underused.
But it is almost worth watching just for the scenes in which Grace Jones appears.
Grace Jones has always been a sort of enigma to me (and others I'm sure). I have always found her utterly enchanting and completely intimidating and one only has to watch her scenes in this film to get a feel for what I mean.

Best vampire flick ever hehe very 80's and very sexy, Grace Jones is gorgeous and the look of it is so seedy and dark, really hits the mark and makes the atmosphere perfect, Dusk Till Dawn idea here have you noticed?
If yr an 80's fan or if you remember the 80's haha this will bring back good memories of a time when films were seedy and cool :)
The song when Grace strips is excellent, wonder who did it.

Vamp is a curious lost little lamb from the 1980's, all lit in bizarre green and purple tones and featuring all manner of Grace Jones wiggling around like a monster. It's a fun ride, cleverly done and not entirely unoriginal, with terrific acting talent and a loopy sense of humour pitched somewhere between After Hours and a sideways college comedy. Another aspect I appreciated was how each vampire had a personality, and they weren't always one hundred percent proud to be vampires. They're very aware that in a lot of ways they're perfectly lame. Fairly cool stuff, especially in the confrontation between a character who "turns" and the protagonist.

On the other hand, the last half lacks the zip and zap of the first and some characters seemed a little undernourished. The geek who owns the car seemed a little extraneous towards the end, and the albino gang, while sort of awesome, didn't really belong.

But either way. If you're interested in an offbeat 80's vampire movie or just seeing Grace Jones scare the s**t out of you with her face, by all means rent Vamp. You will become a much wiser person as a result and your parents will no longer hate you.

It all starts out promisingly, in many ways not unlike a good episode of "Buffy" with nudity, but then it all goes horribly wrong when Grace Jones appears.

This film was very weird that had a crack at a comedy horror but without both aspects, it wouldn't fit into any genre if they weren't vampires. Even though the ending was good and the story was fun, it just lacked any sparks and didn't captivate you; see From Dusk Till Dawn for how this film should be like. The main character tried to be that slapstick likeable kind of guy but really wasn't, he came across as uninteresting. Though expectations were not high there was no excuse, some scenes should have been better overall there were good parts eg Bill Drago scenes but for the majority only a guilty pleasure with not much to offer the viewer.

80's cult vampire classic. Two college boys looking to impress their new frat brothers go looking for a stripper to take back to the frat house and win their trust/friendship/beer so they when they find the After Dark club they think they've hit the jackpot. Little do they know the place is run by vampires and along with a fellow unpopular but rich student who's tagged along and lovely but airheaded barmaid Dedee Pfeiffer, they need to find a way out or, well, y'know. Vamp is obviously totally chessey and doesn't look great today but thats part of its charm and the main characters are likeable, it is genuinely funny at times, is set mostly in a strip club and also has moments of gore. A must see for vampire fans.

This film has very interesting almost expressionistic visuals to it. Of course they aren't punch-you-in-the-face expressionist qualities, staying in the view of the mass appeal was goal I'm sure, as it is a horror-comedy. As a horror-comedy it works too. I definitely found myself laughing out-loud in some parts, as they do go beyond goofy, at times. But through this subgenre the director and cinematographer capture some great and colourful visuals at the same time as being pretty true to the vampire myth, at time even do so to a fault, but an intentional and funny one.
And then there's the star "vamp" Grace Jones, the singer/performer doing a role she was perfect for.

Entertaining horror comedy vampire romp with Grace Jones as the title vampiress stripper, the lovely Dedee Pfeifer, Chris Makepeace as the likable hero and E.R.'s Gedee Wantanabe.

Good performences, nice atmosphere and some bloody violence with dark humor makes this one of the better and most underrated vampire movies of the 80's.

The worst vampire movie ever made. Grace Jones is a kind catwoman like vampire predator. Do not view this film, sleep instead and hope for bad dreams.

Truly one of my favorite vampire flix. Might of even been one of the first comedy-horror movies, and I think very influencial to later vampire movies in the 80's and 90"s.

two college guys trying to get accepted into a frat go looking for a stripper to take back to the house for a party. they come to a strip club hoping to find a stripper there willing to come with them, too late do they realize they walked into a strip club run by vampires.

80s comedy horror about two pledges who are sent to procure a stripper for their new frathouse. Unfortunately they decide to get one from the After Dark club which is populated by vampires. Hilarities ensue.
No doubt an inspiration to From Dusk til Dawn, this holds a touch of independent video store nostalgia for me, but it is so dated and not so funny. Worthy of a remake, not a revisit.
