Critics Consensus: Vampires Suck Bites

Summary

This week at the movies, we've got a Twilight spoof (Vampires Suck, starring Jenn Proske and Matt Lanter); a magical childminder (Nanny McPhee Returns, starring Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal); bloodthirsty fish (Piranha 3-D, starring Elisabeth Shue and Jerry O'Connell); a baby mixup (The Switch, starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman); and powerball pratfalls (Lottery Ticket, starring Bow Wow and Ice Cube). What do the critics have to say? The critically-reviled spoof-meisters Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer make Uwe Boll look like Akira Kurosawa; for those keeping score at home, their best-reviewed directorial effort thus far is Date Movie, which scored a robust six percent on the Tomatometer. When you can't make a Twilight parody funny, you're not even trying.

They didn't do the first two scary movies, which is why they're not completely terrible.

Well, Vampires Suck must be the most surprisingly reviewed movie of the summer [sarcasm intended]! Very surprised Piranha did so well with the critics, but I won't be seeing it. I'm not a big fan of gore-fests. I did not enjoy the first Nanny McPhee. I thought it was boring and uneventful, and no one really asked for a sequel, but here it is and it's getting great reviews. I'm surprised, I admit it. I love both leads in The Switch, but the premise seems questionable for a feature length-movie, and the reviews secured that I won't be seeing it this weekend. As for Lottery Ticket, no interest whatsoever. Guess it'll be Scott Pilgrim and Inception again for me.
