Stephen Sommers Attains Some "Proximity"
by Scott Weinberg | April 07, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Although he won't be sitting in the director's chair, filmmaker Stephen Sommers ("Van Helsing," "Deep Rising") has been brought on board as a producer on "Proximity Effect." Based on the Top Cow comic book of the same name, the plot "concerns a seemingly ordinary woman who exhibits extraordinary powers, but only when she is within a certain distance of a particular guy." Newbie screenwriter Jason Rothenberg has earned the adaptation gig. No word yet on who'll be directing, but expect the Universal folks to find somebody soon.

Throw in that most Top Cow comics suck, and this movie is doomed....

I dunno... I found it goofily amusing when I didn't pay much attention to it. As far as characterisation and plotting went, it had about as much substance as a sheet of tissue-paper, but it sure as hell *looked* good. At least it didn't pretend to be anything other than what it was. If it'd tried to look clever and deep, it would've been even worse.
