This week in DVD news, Francis Ford Coppola brings you the Godfather trilogy (again), Quentin Tarantino is super excited about the original Inglorious Bastards, and Hancock may soon stream directly into your TV set. Plus, we've got Vantage Point, Drillbit Taylor, a new X-Files DVD and more new releases!
Leave the cannoli. Take the DVDs.

On September 23, Paramount Home Entertainment is making you an offer that you can't refuse: The Godfather Collection: The Coppola Restoration, on both DVD and Blu-Ray. Francis Ford Coppola himself spent a year overseeing the frame-by-frame restoration, a painstaking process which is documented in one of four new featurettes; the complete set includes the entire Godfather trilogy (for those of you who count Godfather III), extras from the previous box set, and more new material. Shell out $72.99 for the DVD set, $119.99 for Blu-Ray.

~*Admiral Snowstorm*~ writes: on Jun 30 2008 08:08 PM An interview with Wong Kar Wai on the My Blueberry Nights DVD? Well, I'm sold. The man's probably one of my favorite working directors; middling reviews aside, I'm sure My Blueberry Nights looks absolutely gorgeous. Wong doesn't even know how to make a scene look boring or drab. (Reply to this) |

Jen Yamato writes: on Jul 01 2008 09:32 AM Yeah dougkip, it seems a bit silly and expensive to buy the Godfather set again if you already have it. Sometimes new/extra materials are worth it; in this case, I'm not so sure. I saw My Blueberry Nights twice, just to confirm what I thought of it. I don't want to discourage anyone from seeing it if they are interested or already love Wong Kar-Wai's work, but...it's not exactly the big American breakthrough that I was hoping for. That said, he features two of my favorite musicians' work as crucial leitmotifs throughout the film: Otis Redding and Cat Power (who also "acts" in one scene). I'd watch the DVD again to hear Wong Kar-Wai's insights alone. And I'm SO getting Inglorious Bastards! That was the biggest piece of DVD news to me this week. (Reply to this) |

RainbowBrite34 writes: on Jul 02 2008 05:40 AM In reply to this comment (#1829760) I saw My Blueberry Nights and didn't really like it at all. The movie, while generally well acted, was predictable. I could have told you the ending from the first scene and that never makes for interesting movie watching. Norah Jones makes a good effort here but it helps being surrounded by some of Hollywood's finest. The mood and music were excellent the story was kind of weak. Somebody mentioned Mad Men and I loved it! I just finished season one on DVD and would highly recommend it. Just to put out a warning it is high drama and since it's set in 1960 it definitely isn't for everybody but I find the characters intriguing and it gives me a glimpse in to a era I knew little about. Big props for Mad Men! And the Mad Women on the show, too! (Reply to this) |
