Sometimes we are surprised by the forces that serve as a catalyst for our deepening. . . . a profoundly simple and moving film.

Reviews for The Visit
Some of the fantasy sequences play like a Hallmark Hall of Fame production, as does the overly sentimental ending.
There are some good performances and the material speaks to some powerful issues.
More important than the technical precision of the actors' turns is the rapport they all share--which ultimately lends this story of a family its authentic, immediate poignancy.
Contains some effective performances, not least from Hill Harper as Alex, the hero.
Overloaded with extra characters, tangled story lines, dance numbers, fantasies and flashbacks.
At its best when considering measures of masculinity and dread of not living up to them.
A better venue for The Visit might be PBS or HBO, where its method-y intimacy would feel less forced.
If you are open to a leisurely paced psychological drama which enters the mind of a very unhappy fellow, you might gain the same satisfactions as I.
The acting carries the scenes and Walker-Pearlman's dialogue and screenplay make for an auspicious debut
Ultimately, this is a story not just about the forgiveness of others but also about the forgiveness of oneself.
A prime example of a movie that has clearly been agonized over and loved, but to virtually no ultimate effect.
It's hard not to give it bonus points for avoiding prison movie clichés and for taking a long, unblinking look at the complex dynamics of one American family.
The very strong performances in this low-budget film deserve a better narrative structure to strut their stuff.
A spare and moving study of regret and redemption, marked with chilling truths about a life behind bars.
The drama is very powerful, with layers of complexity seldom seen in this subject matter. In that regard, it puts "The Shawshank Redemption" to shame.
