It's a film that has the right intentions to humor the audience, but it does not deliver what it wants, nor does it establish a reason why a premise like this should exist if it's going to be carried out by laughless and plotty story developments.

It's instructive that Waking Ned Devine is being so aggressively sold as a feel-good comedy; the "good" feeling in question is called condescension.

Top CriticSodden, middle-of-the-lane humor of this sort has never bothered me before -- I just think perhaps the Irish might enjoy being the subject of a film with slightly less alcohol and a smidgen more honesty to it for once.
