It can't rise above the insipid banality of Sparks' recycled and recycled again small-town romance.

Sparks focuses on young love so thickly earnest that it practically coats you, like butter flavoring at the snack bar.

Not only is it hokey, manipulative and as bland as Wonder Bread dipped in milk, but it also does the absolute last thing we need Hollywood doing to us: It preaches.

This one is certainly well-meaning, but it's also simple-minded and contrived.

This is for those who appreciate their Dawson Creek fix supersized on the big screen. Taking a Walk to this pandering afterschool premise will make some cry indeed...but unfortunately, for the wrong reasons.

Seeing as how it's based on a weepy Nicholas Sparks novel, it's not surprising that this teen romantic drama is an almost unbearably weepy film.
