Although he's been wooing the beautiful Ghislaine for 17 years, the General has never been able to bed her; nor has he ever made a commitment to her. When Ghislaine finally concludes that their romance is going nowhere, she shows up at his castle to end their relationship. There, she meets and falls in love with a young soldier -- who turns out to be Fitzjohn's illegitimate son. While the General makes a last-ditch attempt to find happiness by winning Ghislaine, his wife, who pretends to be an invalid, schemes to prevent his success. [More]
