Box Office Guru Wrapup: Moviegoers Heat Up to Warm Bodies

Summary

Super Bowl weekend was ruled by the adorable undead as the zombie romantic comedy Warm Bodies opened at number one leading a dull frame with lackluster ticket sales. The Big Game routinely crushes ticket sales on Sunday weakening weekend numbers and studios either avoid programming any good films, or use it as an opportunity to counter-program to young women - the demographic least affected by America's biggest sporting event. The Top 20 sank to just $82M, down a sharp 31% versus last year. Back to Article

I'm so happy that Bullet to the Head tanked. I hope Stallone realizes that his time is done and should stop making films. The dude can't even talk, so what makes him think the meat head can act? Retire right now, no one thinks you're tough anymore. Like I said, your time is done.

True.
I wonder why the fuck can't they star in a good movie with some good story and acclaimed supporting cast?

Nothing exciting or memorable so far this year... Hopefully Die Hard will get the year going.

I still need to see Silver Linings Playbook, glad to see it and many of the other great films from late last year holding up.

And audiences have been shunning action heroes lately. Cannot say I blame them with Bullet to the Head, though; as soon as I saw the trailer for it, I thought it was a joke.

What'd you guys and gals think of the Super Bowl trailers?

I was slightly disappointed. Nothing new to see, IMO.

I feel pretty much the same. The only new reveal was the Fast & Furious 6 trailer, and I felt that the series high of Fast Five was ludicrous and overrated, so my interest in the sixth installment is nonexistent.

I thought the Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness trailers was pretty cool. The commercials for Oz, Lone Ranger and World War Z showed just about everything that was in their respective trailers.

It's really something seeing so many action movies do so badly in so short a time period. Not sure if people are sick of the genre, or if these ones just had nothing interesting to offer.

TBH though, I barely saw any advertising for any of the three recent flops. Not sure if that's a coincidence of if the marketing was bad all around, but it's pretty odd.

Ben Moore say what you want about Sly not speaking clear but you cant say he's not a very smart business man when he did Rocky they want some of the best leading me of all time for that role.Even though he was broke he ask for less money and more points in the gross then when rocky became a hit the studio wasn't trying to pay Sly said he'd sue and the next day they paid.

Ben Moore is obviously a very young dude who loves action films full of CGI because it's obviously not what it's used to be anymore! The demographic who watches Arnold and Stallone films are over the age of 25 and most of them don't even have as much time to go to the movies as their children do! It's "The Transformers", "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" films that are overtaking this film market! And then theirs "The Hunger Games"!

You guys are too stupid to insult. I may be 19 years old, but I know a good movie when I see one. And the films you named I do not think are great films at all. Now please, go entertain your simple minds by watching The Expendables.

Rocky's not a great film? I'm with you a lot of Sly's action movie's aren't exactly Citizen Kane, but he does/did have some good ones back in the day. Rocky's I and II and First Blood jump to mind as well as Copland.

I never said Rocky was a bad film? And don't ever use Sly and Citizen Kane in the same sentence again. I'm saying Sly's movies TODAY are shit.

"I never said Rocky was a bad film" You didn't have to say Rocky was a bad film because you already did! Your original intent for your previous comment was that because people can't understand what Stallone is talking about that he shouldn't be in films even though he pretty much sounds the same when he did the "Rocky" movies aka copy and paste "the dude can't even talk, so what makes him think the meat head can act"! Stallone did receive an Oscar nomination for his role for Rocky which completely contradicts what you were saying about him in the first place! You did not see "Bullet To The Head" and perhaps only saw only a few films of his out of how many Stallone has done does not make you a film expert!

@Ben Moore .... You may not like some of my examples but you still probably paid money to see them at the theatre! And the RT ratings didn't discourage you from paying money to see them- yes or no?

Dave did you seriously just toss Harry Potter in with Transformers? To each his own I guess.

Feb 5 - 03:06 PM

Dave J

Dave J

Well, I never said that the "Harry Potter" films are bad, I was just making a point that children have more time to go to see films at the theatre than the adults do! The success of the Twilight, Harry Potter and Transformers films were all financially successful because majority of the demographic who paid to see those films are young and underage!

I love when people like Ben say Sly should quit why whould you quit when you have films that make a lot of money he had one film out of 4 bomb. His film before that grossed 260 million he directed his biggest films and produces all all his films and is a smart business man he told Bruce Willis and a lot of stars to invest in Planet Hollywood and made a lot of money back in the day and he got out of it just in time

I'm very surprised how action movies are not faring so well this year. All three of the films actually looked decent. Maybe the new Die Hard film will turn things around. I expected Warm Bodies to be number one with the super bowl and all....
