Exclusive Zack and Debbie Snyder WATCHMEN Video Interview at the Saturn Awards
6/25/2008

Tonight, at the Hilton Hotel at Universal Studios, was the 34th Annual Saturn Awards. If you don’t know about the Saturn’s, it’s the once a year awards ceremony for the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films.

What’s great about the Saturn’s is the way the press can interact with the attendees. Whoever is on the red carpet always gives you plenty of time to talk, and the winners end up backstage for some more Q & A.

While some events you’re lucky to get 1 minute with someone, I’ve got about 2 hours of video interviews to edit and post…so in the next 48 hours you’re about to get flooded with interviews with the cast of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Guillermo del Toro and Doug Jones and a few other surprises…

But up first…Zack and Debbie Snyder for Watchmen.

When I saw the two of them walking towards me on the red carpet, I’ll admit I was very happy. With Comic-Con around the corner, I realized this was the perfect place to get a jump on news and info that I could share with you. Thankfully, both were willing to talk and posted below is about 10 minutes of them answering all my questions.

But the highlight was easily the smile that Zack gave me when I confronted him with what I know to be true…that the trailer for Watchmen is attached to the Dark Knight. Watch his reaction.

We also discussed the running time, how long will the DVD be, the sizzle real he showed Warner Bros., and how Nite Owl’s ship is going to be at Comic-Con!

Trust me, if you’re a fan of Watchmen or are just looking forward to Zack’s new movie…this is a must see interview.

And since it’s almost 1am as I write this…look for a ton of other video interviews all day tomorrow after I wake up. And the one I did with Guillermo is also a must see…tons of Hobbit news….

Update - Here's the second interview I did with Zack Snyder at the Saturns where he talked about a 300 Sequel, Illustrated Man, Guardians of Ga'Hoole and says we’ll see Dr. Manhattan before Comic-Con!

Zack Snyder and Debbie Snyder Video Interview Part 1

  • How does it feel to be the main event at Comic-Con – he talks about the battle of making the movie.
  • Say Manhattan looks awesome
  • We talk about the sizzle real he showed WB
  • I ask how many minutes they’re showing at Comic-Con – Debbie says a couple minutes
  • I ask Zack how does it feel to have his trailer attached to the biggest film of the summer – The Dark Knight
  • I ask how much pressure he feels to decide what images will be the first ones he shows people in the trailer
  • I heard rumors they might be bringing Nite Owl’s ship to Comic-Con…I ask Zack if it’s true

Collider video or audio content ... very cool stuff

Zack Snyder and Debbie Snyder Video Interview Part 2

  • Is he already having the battle this far out over the running time of Watchmen
  • I ask if they’ll def. make the release date even with the huge amount of post they have to do
  • I ask what he thinks the final DVD running time might be. He says 3 and a half hours and Debbie uses her hand to point up…like it will be longer
  • I ask about producing the movie and was it easier after 300
  • We talk about the studio support
  • I ask if they’re giving out buttons at Comic-Con and he says they’ll be some cool stuff down there
  • With the amazing viral campaign of Dark Knight, I ask if they’ve thought about the viral marketing for Watchmen
