Watchmen Set Reports and Interviews Galore!
The geekgasm begins in earnest.
With less than a month between us and Zack Snyder's "Watchmen," the press machine is grinding into high gear -- and that means a slew of articles about the film, including some long-embargoed set visit reports from 2007 and a rapturous review of the "emotional experience" of watching the movie from Time Magazine's Matt Selman.
First, the set visits, which started going up at midnight PST: In the fall of 2007, a handful of film writers, including representatives from Collider, IESB, and Superhero Hype!, were invited to take a peek behind the scenes of Watchmen, and even though Snyder was only about a month into shooting, all of the writers were impressed, to put it mildly. In his lengthy writeup, Ryan Rotten of SHH! wrote "The sheer prep work on display here is astonishing"; his sentiments were echoed by IESB's Erich Wood, who exclaimed "Sweet Alan Moore's beard!" and Collider's Steve Weintraub, who had a "geekgasm" and chafed under the embargo: "All I want to do is scream as loud as I can to everyone I know and to everyone who reads the site about how amazing this set visit was and how the movie looks like it's done the impossible -- making Alan Moore's 'unfilmable' graphic novel into a movie everyone will love."
All three outlets are now offering a ton of newly freed Watchmen content, including the aforementioned set visit reports, as well as interviews with Snyder and many of the movie's stars. To begin what could very easily end up being several hours of Watchmen reading, follow the links below!

And then check out Matt Selman's latest missive from Nerd World, the Time-sponsored blog he co-authors with Lev Grossman. In the post, Selman waxes rhapsodic about his Watchmen screening, calling the experience "a serious freak-out" and "one of the most powerful experiences I've ever had," and saying it's "astounding how much of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel is in this movie." Though Selman skirts the March 6th review embargo by leaving out specific details (or imagines he skirts it, anyway; other writers have already cried foul), it's an interesting look at an early emotional response to one of the most anticipated movies in recent memory. Confounded writes: on Feb 17 2009 05:49 AM Why must you people do this to me? I'm probably going to pass out from sheer excitment standing in line, hyperventilating like an asthmatic getting a handjob from Blake Lively. And miss the movie completely, being forced to listen to the paramedics talk about how amazing it was in the ambulance trip to the hospital, because I "looked OK" so they left me in the mall parking lot while they took my place in line. Ok, maybe not the most likely of scenarios. But still. The hype is going far and beyond The Dark Knight did last year, and Ironman before that. If you don't have a ticket yet, you better hope you live in Alaska, because odds are you won't find an open seat until mid-way through the following week. I vote we break the street date, hijack a copy of the film, and start screening it early. Who's with me??? (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Feb 17 2009 07:02 AM Nice, I got my tickets earlier this week. Less then 3 Weeks! Also I am glad to hear the final running time is 2 hours and 43 minutes, that should be enough. (Reply to this) |

rle4lunch writes: on Feb 17 2009 12:49 PM I dunno, mind it that I have not read the novel, but this movie looks like: A. It is taking itself way too seriously.(this statement is by no means intended to spark a TDK comment(s) and how great it was, so stop before you start, geeks) B. The acting is going to be just as ridiculous as 300.(although I liked 300) C. The super slo-mo sh.it will get tiring way too early in the film. (300 was cool with it, so was the Matrix 1, but I'd say it's getting 'played out') I may still see this, but the trailers acting didn't look too great, the lines were cheesy, and well, the blue glowing dude still looks too much like the Silver Surfer to be taken seriously. IMO. I hope I'm proved wrong. (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Feb 17 2009 01:28 PM In reply to this comment (#2327217) The acting man?!? Its got Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Patrick WIlson (Little Children), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Matthew Goode (The Lookout) so dont expect the acting not to be good... The graphic novel is really serious and is darker then The Dark Knight. I think the slow motion and fast motion will work fine in the movie, it seems pretty cool from the trailers... Man you gotta read the book. You know you are going to see this. (Reply to this) |

rle4lunch writes: on Feb 17 2009 01:39 PM dunno jokerboy. i'm not saying the actors are bad, maybe just the lines they spoke in the trailer. if i have time i'll read it before i see it. if i see it, which, i prolly will. (Reply to this) |

mssk8erboy writes: on Feb 17 2009 04:04 PM Haha, i wish i had a watchmen shirt. This movie is going to be amazing. The novel is probably one of if not the best graphic novels I've ever read. Don't even worry about the acting it looks to be spot on and Zack Snyder was definitely the right man for the job. -MIKE (Reply to this) |

Alex F. writes: on Feb 17 2009 04:17 PM In reply to this comment (#2327304) i see what you mean the trailers dont really do the story justice. but trust me it is more than just slow mo and one liners. the graphic novel is such an incredible piece of work. it is praised for its writing and themes, being the first postmodern reaction, and even satire, of the entire superhero/comic book culture. so trust me the writing in this film, which synder has said and proven in trailers that he has lifted lines straight from the novel itself, will be right on par with the graphic novels. as for the slow mo, im also getting tired of that snyder crap but if you think about it, this is the perfect film to use that technique to draw obvious parallels to the comic illustrations. overall it looks like its gonna be a faithful rendition of alan moores masterpiece, which means itll be a great movie (i hope). and read the book. its the only comic ive ever read and its really a great piece of literature once you get into it and understand how groundbreaking and influential it was for the time it was made. jokerboy1991 writes: on Feb 17 2009 05:09 PM Hey guys there is a gushing review over at aintitcool, his only problem seemed to be the running time, 163 minutes, though I don't think that will be a problem to use Watchmen geeks... Also there are some really great clips over at slashfilm. Also I just bought a Watchmen Doomsday Clock at Amazon, this is really the first movie that I have bought merchandise for... it feels GLORIOUS! (Reply to this) |

Maybe I'll read the book again...8th times a charm?... (Reply to this) |

rachel_renegade writes: on Feb 17 2009 05:32 PM In reply to this comment (#2327622) Hahaha, yeah, me too. I'm totally nerding out for this one. Someone on IMDb compared us to Twilight fangirls, and i had to explain that this is different. People have been waiting for this movie for longer than most Twilight fans have been alive. This isn't some teen fad book, this is a staple of the comic book world, and is considered one of the best novels of all time, listed by Time magazine among To Kill a Mockingbird and A Clockwork Orange. so, in a nutshell, we win. mrshock13 writes: on Feb 17 2009 05:33 PM In reply to this comment (#2326341) Dude, you should have told me to wait, I'm already on my way to break into Zack Snyder's house. And I'm filming it...and it's called...wait for it...FANBOYS 2!!! But really, I'm typing this on my iphone (HA, don't really have one). Zack Snyder has really slow internet in his place. If anyone has a layout to his house, let me know, because I'm at the stairs and I don't know where to go to find the movie... (Reply to this) |

jokerboy1991 writes: on Feb 17 2009 05:54 PM In reply to this comment (#2327652) God, I cant go 5 minutes during school without thinking about Watchmen! It really just throws me off. Well hopefully after I see the midnight screening and see it probably one or two more times that weekend I will be able to calm down... until then I am going insano with Watchmen. I can't stop making quotes during my day!- and the best part is that nobody notices! I can say that at free will at the right moment and they won't stand out to people... Oh man! (Reply to this) |

Lance B. writes: on Feb 20 2009 07:10 AM i hate to be a skeptic but i hope snyder is up to the challenge of dealing with a graphic novel that is ALOT deeper than 300. hopefully he wont become another michael bay. (all action; no depth) kinda reminds me of billy walsh and meddilin from entourage. (Reply to this) |
