Weekly Ketchup: Watchmen Director Takes Sucker Punch
Summary
This week's Ketchup features a refreshing number of movies that are original ideas, including the next movies for the directors like Kevin Smith (Clerks), Zack Snyder (Watchmen), Alexander Payne (About Schmidt), Jay Roach (Meet the Fockers) and Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo). With Watchmen in theaters today, and the CGI fantasy animal movie Guardians of Ga'Hoole well under way, director Zack Snyder set his sights last week on his next live-action project. That project is Sucker Punch, starring Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia) as Babydoll, a young woman in the 1950s sent by her stepfather to a mental institution to receive a lobotomy. Back to Article

ledawg1138 writes: on Mar 06 2009 09:44 PM I'll take a Keira Knightley clone. I'll take two. Mad Max...anime...hmm. Just, hmmm. Number 9's title really grabs ya. (Reply to this) |

Moonpig123 writes: on Mar 07 2009 01:16 AM Sucker Punch sounds pretty cool. Rape: A Love Story will probably be unfairly lynched and banned in several countries if only because of the title, but sounds like it has potential. Adjustment Bureau sounds VERY interesting... (Reply to this) |

the train writes: on Mar 07 2009 08:49 AM anything philip k dick wrote is going to be more interesting than what hollywood comes up with based on it. with the possible exception of blade runner, hollywood has a poor track record adapting his material for the screen. fingers crossed that they won't screw it up. whitey_mcwhite writes: on Mar 07 2009 11:47 AM Jay Roach has actually directed 2 movies since Meet the Fockers, Earth to America and the superb Recount, it's just that neither of them were big screen. I'm excited to see what Kevin Smith will do with his first time directing someone else's material. Maybe this will give him an opportunity to prove something new and get Red State made. I happened to come across an updated copy of the script for A Couple of Cops so I'll be reading it soon. (Reply to this) |

BrokenDreamer writes: on Mar 08 2009 07:33 AM Greg: I was really hoping that after your in-depth analyses of the Watchmen trailers that you would have written an article detailing your thoughts on the movie. It was clear from those trailer reviews that you are a true fan of the graphic novel and I wanted to know more of your reaction, simply because a person who took the time to examine the frames of a two minute trailer should provide the same attentive review of the film (though, obviously, not frame by frame, that would take a while). What are your thoughts on some of the changes, as well as the faithfulness Zack Snyder showed to the source material? It would be interesting to know your reaction to the film. Then again, maybe you might want to wait until the DVD release, to respond to the longer director's cut. Either way, I enjoyed your trailer reviews, appreciated your character profiles, and it seems like you are the "expert" of the Rotten Tomatoes staff. I would like to read more than just "Having seen what Snyder was able to accomplish with Watchmen . . ." (Reply to this) |

basscount writes: on Mar 08 2009 08:49 AM A Mad Max anime could be incredible if they do it with great western style comic art instead of a Japanese style. Hopefully they have seen Afro-Samurai: Resurrection and can expand on that syle. (Reply to this) |

nightmare4reasons writes: on Mar 11 2009 08:34 AM I can't wait for Kevin Smith's movie or even Zach Snyder's Sucker Punch. I have my thoughts about the others but odds are half of them are going to be good anyways. The only one I look onto with a questions of doubt is the Mad Max in anime. I love anime and I like the old movies but two together might make an ugly baby (Reply to this) |
