Critic Review - Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)

A pretentious, unpleasant, woolly headed movie that's nothing more than a cheesy horror picture for people who wouldn't be caught dead going to a cheesy horror picture.

it's barely a cheesy horror, it's more of a reflection on real life. things like this happen it isn't just some idiotic creation such as the grudge or the ring. if you weren't able to connect with eva at least i think that says more about you as a person than the film. if you found it impossible to feel not one grain of apathy throughout the entire thing, you're the dumb one. it's hazed and broken like any persons recollection of a horrid, distant memory. i bet you decided 5 minutes into the film that you didn't like it rather than being sat with a clear head.

I certainly felt one or two grains of apathy. The nonlinear narrative of the film that didn't serve to further the story in any meaningful way left me feeling very apathetic indeed.

I agree. I felt as if there wasn't enough of a story or good enough character development within to inspire any feelings of empathy for Eva OR her son. This would have been much better if they'd shown the inner workings and feelings of Eva or Kevin as opposed to two hours of Kevin being weird and Eva being detached (because even in her memories she is cold and emotionless). All in all, this movie was mostly fluff and very little substance, sorry to say.
