Movie Info

Feature film director Alan Rifkin (essentially playing himself) has a brilliant idea. He wants to make a cinéma vérité-style film documenting the rise of an unknown actor into Hollywood superstardom, but first he needs an aspiring thespian. Rifkin's first choice, David Lake (David Andriole), proves the most promising, but unfortunately Lake has just signed a film contract, and Rifkin will not be allowed to film on the other production's set. Undaunted, Rifkin focuses on his second choice, the handsome, ambitious, but inexperienced Anton Markwell (Tony Markes). Wanting his name to have more marquee appeal, Rifkin firsts suggests that Markwell change his name to Nick Decker. Decker gets his first potentially big break when he lands a major role on the internationally popular television series Baywatch. Unfortunately, Decker steps upon a stingray during a beach scene and he is forced to give up the role. Thus the tone of Decker's movie career is set. Co-directed by Rifkin and Markes, this mockumentary offers sharp-tongued commentary on Hollywood and upon the fickle nature of the modern star-making process.
