Were the World Mine Reviews

This original musical comedy tries hard to be whimsical, but never quite succeeds.

interesting take on the bard

Not much of a fan of musicals myself, but this really is a very beautiful movie with a great storyline !

An interesting story that corresponds with the lgbt community and how homophobes really create a hurtful mark on gay people because of their remarks.
Timothy is an openly gay high school senior with low self esteem who gets the lead role in his all male academy's production of Midsummer's Night's Dream.
He manages to concoct the purple flower mentioned in the play, this flower having the power to turn anyone gay and makes them attracted to the first person they see of the same sex.
This musical fantasy film is fantastic but the acting could've used some work.
Were the World Mine, I give you a 60%.

Painfully bad fantasy, like a teenage wet dream...

The Music was delightful, the story whimsical and even though some of the deliveries were out of touch with the scene/audience, it was well worth it. You can tell it's the first feature for many of the young actors, but easily forgiven when things unfold.

A little slow but well done. If you're a Midsummer night's fan, you'll like it.

I absolutely loved this movie!

This wasn't a perfect film by any means but I did enjoy it. I wish there were more musical numbers but what we had was great. The acting was decent throughout, well besides the stage acting, but maybe that was the point? Anyways, I liked it and it did what it was made to do.

I had pretty low expectations for this from the description so I was pleasantly surprised. I get the title song in my head sometimes.

IT WAS OKAY...
and a neat take of the Shakespeare classic, not only modernized but with a gay love interest (and that's much more than what the original already has, Puck being one of the most gay-like characters in Shakespeare's works). The acting was pretty good and I so wish that I liked more of that old English verse but unfortunately I don't, never have, and probably never will. I also found the end too cheesy and kind of ruined the rest of the good work done in the movie

Dancing-singing kind of movie is not my favorite. But most importantly ,real life theme is way better than 'real+fiction+confusing story line'

While the concept is outrageous, Gustafson manages to blend it well in this feel-good coming of age romance.

First of all, this is a really clever film, why wouldn't someone try to make a love potion? This is one of the sweetest independent film I've seen, the numbers were really good, sung by talented cast. Secondly, the acting by Wendy Robie saved the entire film, without her this would be another cheap looking film, but she really proved her acting ability. The gay guys couldn't act straight, that's I am saying. I am sure we've all learnt something today. Clap your hands if we'd be friends.

Absolutely loved this movie. Very well done. Love the Shakespeare sprinkled throughout. It's a modern day telling of A Midsummer's Night Eve that's very relate-able. Wasn't into Shakespeare until I saw this movie.

I've heard about this movie a few times & keep forgetting that I want to see it! Or buy it!!

This movie fell solidly into the realm of "So bad/ridiculous that it's good." Watch it with friends, sing along. It transforms from a mediocre fantasy into a marvelous display of love and glitter and magic and (well-quoted!) Shakespeare. You will gasp, and laugh. You probably won't cry. More than worth your time: a potential life-changer just waiting to be discovered. Sing!

Wonderful Film. Deals with gay issues without going over the top or being too light or comedic. The school production at the end looks amazing, though a bit bland acting-wise. Funny, heart-warming, a nice story with cute gay kids and cool songs.
