  • The Truth About Cancer - Told in the first person by award-winning filmmaker Linda Garmon, The Truth About Cancer shares the personal story of her own husband's battle with cancer. Part science, part personal catharsis, part character-driven storytelling, this powerful film will uncover the truth about cancer and tell us where we stand in fighting this decades-old war. The Hidden Epidemic: Heart Disease in America - Heart disease is the number one killer in America and one of the nation's greatest health challenges for both men and women. More than half of all people who die of heart disease succumb without warning - the other half have the disease lurking in their body for years before it strikes. And while there is no cure, doctors are learning remarkable new things about the disease, including where it starts, how it occurs, and what that means for us. Depression: Out of the Shadows - Many Americans are keeping an important, possibly deadly secret: depression. Approximately 15 million American adults live with this devastating disease that affects all age, race, gender, and socioeconomic groups. Through the voices and stories of people living with depression and interviews with scientists, this film provides an unprecedented portrait of the disease. FAT: What No One is Telling You - With 66% of U.S. adults either overweight or obese, our girth is a serious public health issue. However, open abuse of fat people is our last accepted prejudice. As the number of obese Americans climbs to frightening levels, the quest for answers is becoming even more urgent. This program gives viewers a window into the intense human dramas of those labeled obese and the difficulty of solving weight problems. The Forgetting: A Protrait of Alzheimer's - This compelling film follows the trials and triumphs of researchers battling Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Steven DeKosky's team conducts breakthrough scientific tests, while Dr. Rudy Tanzi, pioneer in genetics, tells of discoveries that may help pinpoint the cause of Alzheimer's. The experts make the research palpable and real, explaining in down-to-earth terms how the disease dismantles lives.
