Stephen Sommers to Help "Worlds Collide"
Variety reports that filmmaker Stephen Sommers ("The Mummy," "Van Helsing") has been signed by Paramount to write and direct a remake of "When Worlds Collide." The 1951 science-fiction film was directed by Rudolph Maté and based upon the novel by Edwin Balmer and Philip Wylie, and details what happens when "scientists discover that another planet is veering dangerously close to Earth, and they make plans for a small group of humans to leave the planet before the inevitable deadly collision."Expect Paramount to treat "When Worlds Collide" a whole lot like their upcoming "War of the Worlds" remake: a big, splashy, summertime tent-pole release.

on Apr 12 2005 09:10 AM The original is fantastic and wrought with tense drama, although the ending boasts that typical 50' sort of pseudo-science, the sort you either forgive or don't (I do). Therefore, I'll be skipping the Sommers version. Didn't know there was a DVD for the original... SWEET. (Reply to this) |
