Blues/rock duo The White Stripes emerged from the fertile musical breeding ground of Detroit with a strong, brittle sound, and an image to match. Virtuoso guitarist Jack White and his sister/ex-wife (the actual status of their relationship has been a constant source of excited debate among fans and the music press) Meg made two albums before WHITE BLOOD CELLS scaled the charts in 2001, having built up a sizeable live following on the indie rock-circuit. Their follow-up album, ELEPHANT, consolidated their position, with the red-and-white clad couple taking to the road for more exhaustive touring, which saw them playing to an ever-expanding fanbase. This concert was shot in Blackpool, England, and is culled from the ELEPHANT-era. Among the 26 career-spanning tracks are a cover of Dolly Parton's "Jolene," as well as original compositions such as "Black Math," "Hotel Yorba," "Seven Nation Army," "I Think I Smell A Rat" and many others. The band has a penchant for using vintage equipment, and neatly complements this by arming various filmmakers and fans throughout the crowd with old 16mm and Super 8 cameras, adding an appropriate visual counterpart to their retro sound and image. As always, the band look and sound amazing, with the expectant crowd matching their exuberance and egging the band on throughout, resulting in a venerable performance from Jack and Meg. [More]
