Reviews for Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
It's still a superb film, a rare big budget blockbuster that concentrates on a clever story, crisp performances, and brilliant jokes while using its groundbreaking special effects only as window dressing rather than as the main event.
Yet with all that, Zemeckis' $70 million technical tour de force doesn't get pulled down in the undertow of its own cleverness.
Miraculously, the film isn't overshadowed by its technical achievement.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) is a technically-marvelous film blending animated, ink-and-paint cartoon characters and flesh-and-blood live actors..
Sheer, enchanted entertainment from the first frame to the last -- a joyous, giddy, goofy celebration of the kind of fun you can have with a movie camera.
Visually stunning and creatively superior, Zemeckis's work is frequently staggering and always entertaining.
The first blend of animation and live-action that seemed so natural we felt the characters were real. There's many a lad still harbouring a crush on Jessica Rabbit.
A groundbreaking film, notable for both as a technical achievement and quality entertainment
A mix of live action and animation, the $45 million movie is as cunning as Wile E. Coyote and chipper as a flock of cartoon bluebirds.
Although this isn't the first time that cartoon characters have shared the screen with live actors, it's the first time they've done it on their own terms.
...an exuberant, funny, inventive, and wholly entertaining piece of whimsy.
A glorious mix of diverse styles, techniques and worlds molded into a cohesive and unique whole.
