Consensus: The low budget may explain Wing Commander's cheesy special effects, but can't excuse the lame dialogue or the movie's obsessive reliance on sci-fi cliches.

Reviews for Wing Commander
The characters are stock and the events are predictable. Unfortunately it's all pretty much what you'd expect from bringing a computer game to the movies.
Staring at a blank screen would be at least fifty times more entertaining and visually stimulating than all of Wing Commander combined.
Scientific fact: the universe is a big vacuum. Scientific corollary: Wing Commander sucks.
No movie spawned from a video or computer game has answered the question of why someone would pay to see something on the big screen that could be played interactively on a video game system or computer.
I would recommend avoiding this cosmic accident even in the video bargain bins.
My, what a field day Mike Nelson and his robot pals would have had with this prime piece of sci-fi schlock.
