At the beginning of WITHOUT LIGHT, Jesse has just broken up with the latest in a long line of girlfriends and has given up on love and hope as his best friend Chris tries to help him out of the slump. It's the stuff of a typical romance movie...the only problem is WITHOUT LIGHT is not a typical romance. The moment Jesse picks up his head, he finds the facade of reality has melted away and the patterns of "life" are completely visible--if not immediately understandable. This is a world in which friends speak in riddles; ex-girlfriends fade in and out of view; and the foundation shakes, rips, and splits until Jesse is left with two separate realities--those of a psychological thriller and a samurai film. WITHOUT LIGHT: not your typical romance movie, indeed. [More]
