The Wolf Man Needs a Director
Will poor Benicio del Toro ever get to howl at the moon?
Universal can't catch a break: first, the studio has to spackle over Brad Pitt's last-minute departure from State of Play, and now, weeks before filming was scheduled to begin, director Mark Romanek has left The Wolf Man.
Variety reports that Romanek's departure is being chalked up to the ever-popular "creative differences," and relays that Universal is showing a stiff upper lip, saying "the studio maintains that Romanek left the project in strong shape and that it expects to set another director quickly."
With a February 18 start date looming, it had better be really quickly -- or star Benicio del Toro, who has been attached to the project for what seems like forever, will have more waiting to do.

Shatter24 writes: on Jan 30 2008 10:16 AM They have to use make-up and limit CGI if they make this. CGI werewolves suck. Maybe use Alex Proyas as director or that Cuaron fella (Children of Men), or Sam Raimi (he's good with monster movies and w/ heart). (Reply to this) |

harrismonkey writes: on Jan 30 2008 08:06 PM Romanek leaving is a bad sign. He was quite possibly the best music video director ever, and his first feature One Hour Photo pointed very strongly to him being a very solid feature director as well. If he's left it probably means the studio is hell bent on making a crappy movie and wasn't about to let him stop them. This raises the other ugly question, will we ever get another Romanek movie? He's had a ton of very interesting sounding ones fall through since One Hour Photo. :( (Reply to this) |
