Critic Review - Arizona Republic

While packed with effects and action, without the attention to story and emotional investment present in such films as The Dark Knight and Ironman, Wolverine ultimately doesn't rise above its comic-book roots.

The idea of a film "rising above its comic book roots" is insulting. It should be trying to do those fantastic roots justice.

All indications are that this movie doesn't do its roots any justice at all. The idea of a film having good dialogue, story, and well-written characters is not insulting at all, and that's what the reviewer was trying to get across.

Oh One

That's an insult to the entire comic book industry.

No, no - if you're to believe the 44% (currently) tomatometer, the film itself is the insult to the comic book industry.

Countless film's RT averages have fluxed from negative, to positive almost as much as Lindsey Lohan's sexual orientation. While it might become worse, it is still a bit pretentious to criticize the average while there are currently only something like around 40 reviews. I also think it also shows that the average might increase since several of the more "respected critics" felt it was a worthy experience. However, anyone expecting this film to rival Citizen Kane needs a stern kick to the head.

Wow, jumping right to calling me pretentious. That's cool. I won't deny the ability of a movie's Tomatometer to fluctuate, but Wolverine isn't going to go too far above 50% - if it even manages to claw it's way that high again at all.

You call it pretentious, I call it a fair estimate based on the critical results and the quality of film.

I think it's hilarious when idiot mouth-breathers are so confounded by someone of far superior intelligence that their only response is to call them a f*g or something of the sort.

John D, you are a moron and this movie blew even as just a "action superhero movie". It really isn't too much to ask for a little depth.

I think a few of you guys are taking what he said out of context. However, it is understandable considering how lousy this guy justified his statements.I think what he most likely meant was "didn't rise over the limitations of it's comic roots". Regardless these types of comments were unavoidable, and are going to be the biggest part of this film to be affected by the leak. Not taking into account Fox's apparent objective to commit suicide by trashing their franchises. On a side note, this guys completely illustrates my only strong reservation with "Dark Knight"(while in all honesty it has more to do with the critics). Now all comic films are going to have the lack of Chris Nolan in the director's chair as a criticism.

totally dissappointed with this movie. lazy story, plot holes, boring pacing and underdeveloped characters but apparently Fox thinks as long as they put in some 'cool action scenes', some dumb action jocks will defend this movie to the death. Hugh Jackman sold out, turned into a $$$ whore.

Thats why I made that post last year that said Jackman sucks, with a poll that no one was 80% disagreed with. This movie could not possibly do the comic book justice with fruity Jackman as Wolverine. They should've done the simple Chris Claremont & Frank Miller Graphic Novel and called it Origins 2 or 3 instead of trying to stuff all that stupid x-factor adamantium adding crap. That's not the most interesting thing about Wolverine.

comic books suck haha. every single thing is so generic. and "the most celebrated one of all time" turned out to be crap. (the movie that is) and well read the book, and thought it was meh. /////so thats the best comic books can do>? lol watchmen. Hell videogames are better than comics. Try a comic book that can top Bioshock.

I read comics and play video games. The only thing better about games is the interactivity. Story-wise most games circle the drain. I know the possibility for a great game with an amazing story is out there but it hasn't truly been realized yet. Bioshock is definitely the closest I've seen yet but it still falls short.

I can also guarantee that some of your favorite movies and video games have been based on comics and you probably didn't even know it.

By the way, how many good video game-based movies have there been?

Regardless of Jackman's song and dance abilities and the innuendos that he is gay, I don't care if he has nightyl sword fights in Elton Johns pillow rooms - this move is bad.

Someone's sexuality should not be the question when a movie sucks, no pun intended.
