More Wolverine News Than You Can Shake a Claw At!
Wizard digs its claws into the prequel.

In the mood for a little dish on the forthcoming Wolverine movie? How about a lot? Today's your lucky day -- Wizard has posted a fat pantsload of information, speculation, and other assorted -ations, and we're here to break it down and point you in the right direction for all the Wolvie news that's fit to print.

As previously announced, David Benioff -- who also wrote Troy and this fall's The Kite Runner -- has written a script that everyone seems to love, and Gavin Hood (of last year's Oscar-winning Tsotsi and the upcoming Rendition) will direct. Also, as previously confirmed, there's no room at the inn for most of the familiar faces from the X-Men films. The bulk of the lengthy article, however, deals with the movie's finer points, including plot details. To wit:

Based on info from insiders who say they’ve read Benioff’s script, get ready for all kinds of prequel action as Wolverine’s first ties to Weapon X, his first run-in with Victor Creed (aka Sabretooth), his bonding with adamantium and his feral origins are explored. When asked if the film would touch on Wolvie’s early-year comic book connections to Japan, [Hugh] Jackman curbed the rumor in favor of others.

“[The Japan connection] is still something we really want to do,” admitted the actor-producer. “What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine. And by the end of the movie, I want it to be that you definitely knew who this guy was, like Mad Max and Dirty Harry. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a nice guy. He’s just the guy you want on your side.” Sources also mentioned scenes featuring Wolverine in Vietnam, a pre-X-Men love interest for the furry mutant and character names familiar to comic fans such as the teleporter John Wraith, who served with Wolverine on special ops missions as part of Team X, along with Fred J. Dukes (aka the Blob).

Wolverine's release date is still being listed as "sometime in 2008," but for pretty much everything else there is to know right now, check out the article below!

Then why didn't he get all like "oh i remember you" when sabertooth was in the first X-man?

i thought the same thing Deneco, its just one of those things they didn't have in mind apparently when they did the first one. his initial reaction was more of a "sniff sniff...i sense danger" instead of..."oh snap, here comes that Sabretooth beyotch again!". not that big of a deal though...

Totally'. If they want to bring in ties to X-Men characters, make it ones who haven't already appeared in the movie. Either that or Singer should edit in a shot in X-Men when Wolverine and Sabretooth face off and Hugh looks at him with inquisitive horror and goes, "YOU?!" :)

They could always play the Sabretooth connection off to his memory loss. He's not going to recognize the dude if he doesn't rember him.

Yeah, if you guys do remember, they *****ed w/ his memory pretty well. They better damn well get Tyler Mane back for the role, though.

This will be an interesting movie. I've said it before, but I hope they include some of the story from the Origin line of comics. It'd be neat to see Wolverine alive a couple hundred years ago.

It will be interesting to see how far back they go. Maybe they'll start doing prequels to a prequel, and then we can finally use proper integers for titles. Wolverine -1, and Wolverine -2, that would be great....

Yeah, Singer F**ked up when he first introduced Sabertooth to Wolverine.
They have like a 10 year pre-Xmen history.

Sounds like good news to me, i think singer has ruined the whole X-men series from the start. I mean, nothing in X-men is supposed to be dark. I think it's supposed to be a big fun flashy film.

Dude, there is no way in hell the Wolverine movie will ever be rated R. That gets rid of a lot of the main target audience.

Nothing in x-men is dark? X-men isn't Spiderman.

Again, Wolverine would not remember Sabretooth because his memory was erased. That's how he can show up in this prequel. As for Sabretooth not saying anything, well, he's a man of few words...

There is one way to fit this together - why would Creed want to take Wolverine's dogtags if they had no knowledge of each other? Perhaps simply the rift between them is so great that they don't have to acknowledge each other as boldly as "You!". I know if I bumped into my arch nemesis I would probably save my breath and pop those claws.
