Woman of the River (1955)
In this drama a seductive young woman works at an eel cannery. In her spare time she sees the local constable who loves her. She, in turn, is in love with a poor fisherman who secretly works on the black market to get extra cash. One day he must leave town. She follows and tells him that she is pregnant and that the cops are on his tail. He doesn't believe her and sends her back. The broken-hearted girl retaliates by informing upon him. Years pass and the fisherman escapes from prison and with revenge in mind goes looking for her. The constable first finds her working in a cane field beside the Po River. It is the only job she could find to support herself and her son. When the fisherman finally finds her, she is grieving because her son has just accidentally drowned in the river. He comes in time to see the funeral procession, just as the cops also arrive and arrest him. … More
