The highlight is two variety films, a genre that thrived in the age before television but has since dwindled. The first is HOLLYWOOD CAVALCADE, made just before the war, and starring popular wartime musical star Alice Faye and a variety of slapstick comedians. The other is STAGE DOOR CANTEEN, which was made at the height of the war to raise money for military servicemen, and features appearances by Hollywood stars as diverse as Ray Bolger, Katharine Hepburn, Gypsy Rose Lee, and Johnny Weissmuller. WWII BATTLES & VICTORIES emulates the moviegoing experience of the time by featuring vintage Warner Bros. cartoons, documentaries, and newsreels with actual footage from the frontlines. [More]
