Well. On one level, I'm glad to see an X-Flick doing these kinds of numbers. The better it does, the better for Marvel, the better for the series, the better for superhero movies in general.

On the other hand, it *does* kinda tick me off to see this movie pulling this kind money when it's by far the least of the series. I liked it, but there are *so many* bad moments, flat lines, melodramatic cutaways, overwrought crescendos... And so many characters that are just written wrong. Not to mention that the ostensible heroes are pretty much terrible hypocrites at the end. *And* the ending cheats! Damn it.

I'm glad it's doing well, but I hope Spidey-3 kicks its ass next year.

I think one of the major reasons that this movie is doing well (at least on opening weekend) is that X2 was good enough to get people really excited about its sequel X3. Kind of like Phantom Menace, which grossed the most of the new Star Wars trilogy but is generally regarded as the worst of the 3.

Hopefully more people see it. I didn't see to many sell outs for Sat. I just hope that it doesn't get hit to hard today and take a big drop. If you haven't seen it, then get out there and see it. Help it make more than Spiderman.

The TOP 5 "REAL" Reasons!!!

I just saw it. Big X Man fan... Enjoyed the movie.

HOWEVER!!!

For the simplistic comment earlier, "So all the Ratner haters can shut up, because he has proven them wrong, he did not ruin X-Men."
COME ON!!

TOP 5 Reasons XMEN 3 kicked A$$ Friday (and presumed weekend):

5 - CURIOSITY: People want to see how the last of the 'trilogy' ends

4 - HIPPOCRITICAL FANBOYS : WHY?! They are always aware and CONCERNED over production quality issues (this time Ratner-Gate). So first they complain all forum long at RT or AICN, THEN spend their money to see it anyway... on OPENING DAY NO LESS!!!!!!! Therefore whiny fanboys REINFORCE this to Hollywood to keep making cr&p decisions (Doom, Daredevil, AVP, etc...).

3 - COAT TAILS!! : Most people who went to see it had NO idea about the director issue... and certainly did NOT go to it because they heard it was a "Ratner" film! It was the coat tails of the hard work of MANY before... from Stewart, Singer, all the way to Stan The Man and Kirby. NOT RATNER! Word of mouth has not even had the time to start!

2 - MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! : It was the first "real" summer movie since it opened on Memorial day weekend instead of weeks BEFORE it! Hence it allowed for schools to end session and all. STAR WARS Episode 3 can break records earlier in MAY ... but "I must say Senator; MI:3 is NO Revenge of the Sith!". The proof is in the numbers.

1 - AND THE ANSWER IS: .......THE reason XMEN3 took off at over 40 M in one day................
There was NOTHING else BETTER to see!!! Tom "CHEF must QUIT" Cruise?!.... Posiedon?! .... Da Vinci 'Bore'?! ....
So far from idea depleted, focus grouped Hollywood, a Bret Ratner directed second sequel to a comic book movie has a top 3 opening gross in history!?!?!?!?!?!?! Come ON PEOPLE!

More precisely, COME ON HOLLYWOOD!!! WAKE UP!!!

Again, Ratner did a very respectable job as a fill in 'puppet' director and XMEN is a great concept and franchise. However lets stand back and understand WHERE and WHY the numbers are.

OUT.

Mission Impossible 3 was a better film than X3, sad to say

I think the reason it's doing so well is simple; it's finally giving us what we've been waiting to see since the first movie; a slew of mutants going freaking nuts and kicking ass!

I'm glad the movie is making so much money, and hopefully this will mean that the so called "trilogy" will continue in the Wolverine spinoff or new Xmovies (I just can't get enough of these characters). We all know this was never supposed to be a trilogy, as the LOTR movies or the Star Wars prequels were, and the ending scene and bonus scene reinforce that.

Anyway, I agree with many here on X3 being the weakest chapter of the trilogy and with the critics saying that the important social issues that the Xcomics and previous Xmovies have always underlined were not as developed in this chapter as in the previous installments, which have undoubtedly been some of the best comic-to-film transitions on celluloid. But I don't blame Ratner. He actually surprised me from the teaser trailer on, and I think he did a great job. If this movie is not as good as the previous it is because IT WAS RUSHED UP: the script suffered from the decision of Hollywood honchos yelling out "we need a blockbuster for memorial day and X3 is due !!", so instead of waiting for the team of the previous movies, they renewed it with people not as talented and there you have it... a lesser movie that is great entertainment but pales in comparison with the others. So if somebody is bitter that the movie didn't match their expectations, don't blame Ratner, but the honchos that prefer quick dollars to artistic merits and social relevance of their work...

It is not the end of the franchise. This may be just the beginning. The future of this series depended on this opening weekend and, as we can see, it will be a great gross. They were smart to end the movie on a cliffhanger so they could revive the series at any time. Stay till after the credits and you'll know what i mean.

The haters I'm talking about are the ones who were screaming about how Ratner needed to be strung up and about how X3 sucked when the movie HADNT EVEN COME OUT YET. It had nothing to do with the boxoffice validation, well I guess it kinda did. So yes "TAKE THAT HATERS!"
Oh and dont worry cause the world hates you too

X-3 was definetely the worst of the series. Let's all just accept that. Better action, but not the best movie. I guess that signing up for memebership in the brotherhood required one to wear black leather, dress like a transvestite, and get weird tatoos on odd parts of the body. And porcupine-boy was laughable. He has to hug people for his 'power' to be usefull. Unless he wants to roast a whole buttload of marshmellows.

I like marshmallows! Especially ones that are burnt black on the outside and gooey and delicous on the inside. mmmmm
