There may be no going back, as much as we might want to believe otherwise.
Ten Years Gets Us This ?!
Agreed, the previews were lackluster, and uninspiring - at least that tracked correctly. You know what I think happened ? Chris Carter got wind that "Sex & the City" was going big screen on the strength of its popularity of TV SYNDICATION - it's been in rerun since it ceased production. So Carter says, "well so have we". Problem is, the X-Files in syndication plays late nights to the vampire audience, not near prime-time like "Sex".
1998's extended episode was tepidly passable, but this attempt is just a blatant money-grab that should have been a Sci-Fi Networks made-for-tv production. We don't "want to believe" 10 years later in 2008, we want Put Up or Shut Up.

I saw the film last night and was pleased with it. This new installment combines the two features that made the series great: a monster investigation and the relationship between the two lead characters. Leave the aliens and special effects to the other summer movies. This one doesn't need them. Any fan of the series and/or a good sci-fi story should enjoy this movie. Apparently you aren't much a fan of either.
