Marvel Movie Madness! Part 12: X-Men: The Last Stand
Luke: The Last Stand feels like a kit car: from a distance it appears to be the real thing, but get up close and lift the shell and you discover it's running on an inferior engine. Like most I wish Bryan Singer hadn't jumped ship for that confusing Superman movie, but I also think Brett Ratner takes too much of the bad rap for X3's shortcomings. Ratner's douchey reputation tends to precede his competency as a director -- sure, his images lack the grace and personality of Singer's, but in his defense he at least tries to be reverent.

We can't interview anyone from an "X-Men" movie without asking about any possible spin-offs for them. Kelsey Grammer Gets Blue to Become the "X-Men 3" Beast
Variety reports some rather colorful comic book movie news when they announce that TV's Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) will be playing the fan-favorite Beast in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men 3." Those who doubt the connection between TV's longtime psychiatrist and a 400-pound hulking blue brute need only remember that Beast (a.k.a. Dr. Hank McCoy) is the resident super-genius within the X-Men lair. (Plus he'll be wearing a costume and sprinkled with CGI, most likely.)

Signing "X-Men 3" Director Was a Piece of "Cake"
Although the news has been reported here and there for the past several days, Variety has just confirmed it: director Matthew Vaughn has been handed the reins to the "X-Men" franchise. Longtime producer of Guy Ritchie's films ("Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels," "Snatch") and first-time director in his own right (his "Layer Cake" hits screens in a few months), Matthew Vaughn will step behind the camera for the second sequel in the "X-Men" series.

Nightcrawler on "X-Men 3"
If Alan Cumming is excited about reprising his role as Nightcrawler in the forthcoming "X-Men 3," it is not apparent in the Q&A session promoting his new movie, "Son of Mask." "I signed for two films, so I'm going to [do it]," he says. On the many hours of makeup required to get him into character, he jokes, "I have this brilliant idea ... I want some kind of fabulous, crazy, terrible thing-some terrible accident happens to Nightcrawler and his face turns white."
